I visited on a very cold night, and the shower took about 5 minutes to warm to "not freezing." It never got hot, but I was a little surprised. Still... everything else was fine and I was able to shower, just didn't get the hot soak I was hoping for.
So if you stay here, start the water running (dial the control all the way over to red/hot) when you first wake up. Fix a cup of coffee. Watch the weather news. Eventually the shower will be warm enough to tolerate.
Note to management: on cold days, you should tell people it takes five to ten minutes for the warm water to warm up. I left the shower running for about three minutes before noticing it was anything other than ice cold.
Other than that, everything was great. I was in the cheapest of their rooms and it was a touch on the small side, but... did I mention it was the cheapest? Every thing else about it was fine (except the hot water taking forever to warm up, but that might have been due to it being a hard freeze that night.)
The hotel has clearly been renovated recently and everything still looks pretty brand-spanking-new.
I wanted a place away from the Silver Legacy / Circus Circus center of town and this place is still walking distance (about a mile or so) from the main attractions so it's the best of both worlds. If you change your mind and want the hub-bub of North Virginia Street, it's not too far away. There are plenty of nice restaurants in the area; you won't go hungry. Some of them close a little early, so make sure you check their schedule.
Also, the staff was excellent. Checked in quick. They were quite nice and made some great food recommendations. The door to the lobby is designed to confound old people. The wide black bit on the right of the door is a handle, just fumble around for a bit, you'll figure it out.
Now that I know the shower can take a few minutes to warm up and how to open the lobby door, I'm likely to stay here again when I pass through town. I liked this place. Maybe I'll spring for the next most expensive room and see if my need for elbow...

Read moreI couldn’t be more thrilled with my experience at Best Bet! I will try to be concise:
Reserved via AirBnB. Seamless. Everything in the ad was as described.
Day of check in they send a registration form via text link. Standard and easy to complete. Upon receipt, they send you a code for the room. Keyless entry, no need to lug around a key, nice!
Our room was a Queen Suite. It was spacious. Bed/linen very comfortable. Many nice touches throughout, to include a coffee maker; 2 bathrobes; large two person shower; two TVs. Room is geared toward folks with pets, as it is a bit minimalist in the best of ways, without having much for Fido to chew.
Centrally located in the Heart of Midtown Reno. Steps away from many good bars and restaurants. Very close to Downtown, Atlantis, and a 10 min drive to Peppermill and Legends Bay.
Front desk staff was outstanding! Very nice people! Very accomodating, fun, and full of local knowledge if you desire that.
The Sauna Club: a must do. Two saunas, one indoor and one in a converted camper in back. Both are exquisitely maintained, clean, beautiful, and incredibly relaxing! We should’ve gone more than once!
I’ve been trying to think of a negative thing about our experience at BB, and really I can’t. So many well thought out little touches abound throughout the property and the room. It’s pretty easy to tell that this place is a labor of love for the owners.
I would not consider staying...
