Dumpling Queen — Restaurant in Reno

Dumpling Queen is a neat setup. The food operation is done out of an airstream trailer in an epic outdoor patio area. Despite the small cooking area the food was delivered quick and hot. While the dumplings and buns were delicious I can't shake the feeling the dumplings were a pre-frozen option like Mila. Not a knock, they are good, but handmade dumplings would be a different level. The patio area nestled between too bars (and Lead Dog across the street) makes this a one stop shop for an evening night. I really wanted to like this place but they serve robot made, frozen XLB. I understand that making XLB is a time consuming process, however the difference between handmade and industrial is night and day. I can’t really grasp why one would open a restaurant with the focus on a specific dish and source their dumplings frozen from a supplier that distributes to supermarkets? I appreciate that they are trying to expand the food scene in Reno however, there isn’t any love or pride evident. We ended up stuck in Reno due to bad weather over the Truckee pass, and my friends and I were looking for a place to get some comfort food before heading to the motel on a windy March night. This place was perfect! Everything from the bao, to the dumplings, to the dan dan noodles were DELICIOUS! Everything was fresh and the atmosphere sitting by the fire pit to eat was fantastic, and the lady running the place was very kind and inviting.
