The wife and I are still trying to hit all of the breakfast places in the Reno / Sparks area. Found Fortis Cafe on a Yelp search. We went there this morning.
The service is almost excellent. Must be a family run establishment. Everyone is friendly and quick to respond. No complaints.
Kind of a small place but clean and nicely decorated in a country style.
The food was just off the mark. If there were a few tweeks, the food could be excellent. The wife ordered a Pastor Omelette and I had corn beef hash. On both plates the home potatoes were very bland. They looked like cut up boiled potatoes that were thrown briefly on the flattop. No browning on the potatoes no seasoning and no taste. A little seasoning salt or onions would go a long way to improving this item. The Pastor Omelette was an egg omelette with the pastor placed into the fold, not mixed in. This wasn't a problem but the egg part was a tad over done and dry. Thus making the entire omelette crumbly. Either some sour cream or some other binder is needed. The corn beef hash has all the makings for a great meal but fell just short. Again slightly over cooked, there were very hard and dry strands. Taste was okay but a few onions or peppers would have given this dish some pop.
I really like family run restaurants so we will be back...
Read moreWe had come to this restaurant under it's previous name, so when it changed ownership we decided to come back and try out the new business. We ordered brunch for take out on the weekend. Aesthetic wise everything looks the same as it previously did. It's not a huge restaurant but can probably accommodate a couple of larger groups.
The food was tasty overall, nothing to complain about but maybe also nothing that entirely knocked our socks off. But just a good standard breakfast option. Unfortunately they were having issues with their point of sale system while they were there and that was causing things to be a little backed up at the counter. We also ended up being double charged so we had to fix that with the cc company, however I'm sure they'll work out those...
Read moreUnfortunately, Fortis looks to have dropped in quality of the food and in the condiment quality. The catchup bottles look like they have been squeezed too many times and are ready to crack. The hot sauce is from a brand that I have never seen before. The jams were all grape. I tried to order Chile Relleno but they were out, then they were out of my next pick, so I ordered a Pastor Omelet. The meat was the only item inside the omelet and looked disgusting. The waiter was someone new and was very pleasant. My guess is the restaurant has changed hands and he is the new owner. It used to be a nice little family run restaurant. It was Very Good but not Great. Now it simply is...
