Saimin Says is an amazing restaurant that offers some of the most delicious Japanese and Hawaiian cuisine in town. If you're looking for a place to satisfy your cravings for katsu, spam masubi, and saimin, this is definitely the spot.
Let's start with the katsu. The katsu at Saimin Says is simply outstanding. It's crispy, tender, and bursting with flavor. The chicken and pork are both cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. And the accompanying sauce is the perfect complement, adding just the right amount of sweetness and tanginess to the dish.
Next up is the spam masubi. Saimin Says serves up some of the best spam masubi you'll ever taste. The spam is grilled to perfection, and the rice is fluffy and flavorful. The seaweed wrap adds just the right amount of crunch and umami flavor. It's the perfect snack or side dish to complement your meal.
Finally, we have the saimin. Saimin Says offers a range of saimin options, all of which are delicious. The broth is rich and flavorful, the noodles are cooked to perfection, and the toppings are fresh and delicious. Read moreI was a loyal customer of Saimin Says for over 10 years but ever since the owners changed, the quality of the food has gone down, they no longer use the previous recipes so the food tastes different, and the proportion of food you get for the price has also decreased. The new owners should've changed the name of their restaurant since they changed a lot of the original menu in regards to the taste of the food.
The tuna mac is about 3/4 of the scoop size I'm used to and they no longer use tuna in the mac. The flavor is very bland.
They changed the fried rice which was one of my favs, and is now disgusting. Not sure why they changed the recipe but it wasn't for the better.
Their gravy for their loco moco is now bland as well. Even their spam musubi is bland.
Basically, now with new owners Saimin Says is no longer differentiated for other Hawaiian like restaurants in the area and is just a bland as other restaurants. This establishmente once served the best tasting and most flavorful dishes. I'm sad to say that is no longer the case and I'll no longer recommend the restaurant.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that misses the original recipes but if they want to keep me as a customer then they need to revert back to poriginal recipes.
To old owners, I wish you never had to sell...
Read moreHawaiian resident here. You can skip this place, the only thing worse than the food was the service. Ordered takeout, walked in and stood there for 5 minutes before being acknowledged. Actually had to yell to the back to get someone to come out. Then a lady comes out and takes my payment in complete silence and leaves me standing there wondering when I'll get my food, if it's ready or not, when it might be. Stood there for a while longer and was handed food.
On to the food. As you can see by the picture the presentation was horrible and the food was not even assembled correctly. A plate lunch should be full, yet you can see the bottom of the container because they skimped a LOT on the rice. The burger patties were hard and overcooked and the gravy was watered down and runny.
I'm not sure how you mess up a loco moco as it's the most basic local dish, but that should give you a good indication about the rest of their menu.
No aloha from staff in and way, which is the most important part.
