Unfortunately, had a very disappointing experience celebrating my friend's birthday at a dinner on Saturday May 3, 2025. It started when we were seated at a booth where one of the sides was wet and the hostess didn't do anything to dry it out, despite my friend saying it was wet. He used his napkin and she didn't even offer another one despite seeing it.
The waiter was very polite but was not transparent when took our orders; both my friend and I had the NY Strip Steak, and he asked if we wanted the 'bone-in' version or without bone. The menu did not show any version, so we assumed the price was the same.
I asked for the bone-in one, my friend ordered the 'boneless'. However, both steaks arrived with a bone. They tasted very good. However, when the bill came, there was a succession of errors and very poor service. It turned out the bone in version was $73 (vs. $64 for the original listed on the menu). And the waiter charged both of us for the higher version, despite my friend ordering (what we now knew but not at the time) the less expensive option.
Unfortunately, I only realized all of this after paying for the bill. I asked for the waiter and asked if the bone in was more expensive. He said 'he didn't know but could ask the manager' which is completely disingenuous and misleading. He had to know it was more expensive, given his incentive to upsell us. I asked him to adjust the bill since only one of us ordered the bone in.
It took him 10 minutes to come back with another bill with a credit of $13. Meaning, he didn't take out both amounts despite clearly us not knowing the bone in was more expensive. and he said we were all good, but again, I realized he had kept my tip on top of a higher incorrect amount. So I asked him to re-run the entire bill so I could tip on the correct amount.
The whole thing took another 20 minutes, so we wasted 30 minutes for multiple errors. 1) Not informing us there was an extra charge for the bone-in, 2) bringing both as bone in when only I asked for it, 3) charging both of us for the higher version, and 4) re-running the bill at a lower amount but 'conveniently' keeping the higher tip.
(and of course, to complete the experience, despite us mentioning it was my friend's birthday, he didn't bring any courtesy dessert. I know this is not an obligation but for a supposedly nice place, it's disappointing to not have that kind of special service).
All happened on top of a less than sophisticated atmosphere they try to convey. A couple sitting a few booths over was blasting music on their cell phone for a few minutes and nobody approached them asking to lower the volume.
In short, I do not plan on visiting Ruth's Chris...
Read moreWe had a wonderful dinner at Ruth’s Chris.
We ordered the Veal Ravioli, Ruth’s Chopped Salad, New York Strip, Au gratin potatoes, and Creamed Spinach and Chocolate Sin Cake and a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Ok, the Ruth’s Chopped Salad exceeded expectations! Wow, it was the best salad I’ve ever had. My husband and I shared it and it came just like in my photo, for each of us. It had bacon, crispy onions, delicious croutons, blue cheese, etc. All these flavors together made it amazing, I highly recommend!
There were a couple hiccups, but they are very accommodating and care about the customer’s satisfaction, so please speak up if anything isn’t what you were expecting.
I ordered the least expensive Cabernet Sauvignon. When the glass of wine arrived at the table, it was cold to the touch. I asked if they could bring a glass of room temperature wine and they obliged, and then, it was perfect and delicious to me. In the future, I’ll make sure to ask for room temperature red wine.
My husband and I both ordered New York Strip. I ordered medium and he ordered medium rare. They both arrived a little undercooked, so we sent them back and then, they were absolutely amazing!!! One of the best steaks I’ve ever had. I like that Ruth’s Chris adds the right amount of salt to their steak. Some other places don’t and it’s really needed in my opinion.
Our server was Paul. He was fabulous, attentive and wanted to make sure everything was to our liking.
The manager(s) also visited our table to ask how everything was going.
The Au gratin potatoes were excellent and my husband liked the Creamy Spinach.
For the dessert, the Chocolate Sin Cake, was just that, sinful, so, so good. I loved the texture and chocolate flavor. I had also inquired about if they had sorbet, and they did. So we asked for a scoop of raspberry sorbet and it complimented the sin cake perfectly.
All in all, this was a memorable, romantic and fabulous meal. We will definitely be back. Thank you, Ruth’s Chris for a...
Read moreBad. Came here for drinks and everything was just eye-poppingly expensive without anything to justify the price point.
The drinks ($15-$18) were made with top-shelf liquor, but not terribly tasty or garnished in any compelling way.
Looking at the menu, there's a wide range of very basic dishes, all at incomprehensible price points. In particular, I noticed the roasted stuffed chicken breast for $46 or so: where do you get off charging that much for an incredibly basic dish? Steaks started at the $70 price range: I need the GM to understand that this is Reston, not Las Vegas, and this is just silly. That said, I'm pretty sure this restaurant is solely for business lunches because I don't understand how anyone would willingly pay their own money for such basic fare at such high prices in such a mediocre setting.
Speaking of setting, I know this is petty but I couldn't help but notice how cheap and low quality all the furnishings and fixtures were at the bar: rather than granite, the bars surface was inexplicably made of some ugly vinyl wrap, and looking at the bricks on the wall, they were just cheap contact paper, not bricks. I guess it makes me wonder what else they're cutting corners on? None of these design choices are unforgivable in other contexts, but coupled with the exorbitant price point, it just does not make sense.
As the cherry on top, we happened to see some of our neighbors at the bar, and we paid for their first round of drinks, but apparently they were still charged for the round that we allegedly paid for ($36). Just really upsetting and a terrible experience overall. It all feels like a...
