Mixed Experience at Gecko Restaurant
I recently visited Gecko Restaurant, a place I have respected and frequented in this area for years. While I had a generally positive experience interacting with the owners and staff, I unfortunately had an unpleasant encounter with the bartender, Jamieson, which marred our evening.
From the outset, it was evident that Jamieson was unhappy and seemed to have a negative attitude towards customers. His demeanor was unfriendly and it felt like he resented his job and the vibrant atmosphere of the restaurant. This negativity seemed to spill over into his interactions with patrons, including myself. It is disheartening to encounter such behavior, especially considering the otherwise exceptional service I have received from the other staff members.
I cannot pinpoint the exact reason for Jamieson's behavior, whether it was due to my age or some other issue. However, it was disconcerting to learn that he has exhibited similar rude behavior towards other customers. As I mentioned the incident to friends who were also present at the restaurant, they expressed their own encounters with Jamieson's unpleasant demeanor. This suggests a pattern of behavior that needs to be addressed by the management.
In terms of the food, I must admit that it did not live up to my expectations. The quality and taste of the dishes were not as impressive as in previous visits. However, it is important to note that the other staff members and the overall ambiance of the restaurant still held their charm. The warm and inviting atmosphere, coupled with the presence of friends, made the evening enjoyable despite the shortcomings.
In conclusion, while Gecko Restaurant has been a place I have respected and enjoyed for years, my recent experience was marred by the negative attitude and poor service exhibited by Jamieson, the bartender. I’ve visited two separate occasions with coworkers. I liked the size of the location. It wasn’t too small, nor too big. There’s a bar area, general seating, and an outside patio. The cafe is self-seating. Upon entering both times, I noticed the huge lack of diversity in the customers. This kind of made my sensors go into overdrive, but I was already there and decided to give it a chance. The food was really good for the price point. Another thing that made my sensors go into overload was that I was bought a dirty cup of water with a very visible lipstick stain on the cup. It could’ve been that the waitress mistakenly didn’t notice, & possibly would’ve taken the time to choose clean cup had she noticed…I did utilize the restroom & it was really clean.
When I went for the second visit, it was on a Saturday around brunch, & it was very family heavy. The first time was on a day where my coworkers and I got off early from work right before Christmas holiday, & it was teacher heavy.
