I am a fitness professional and certified nutritionist and own a meal prep service. I have been wanting to get to this store for a while because I had hoped to find all the sugar free cooking ingredients you canât typically find. While they did have a large selection, I was definitely left wanting, as I have found most of what they had at other grocery and nutrition stores. They did have Lilyâs chocolate chips which I hadnât found in store, but they were extremely marked up, as were the Swerve sweeteners I bought. You can find them on Amazon for literally half the price. Save yourself the drive if youâre far away.
I would also like to point out that while the customer service was fine, the older gentleman I spoke with was a little misinformed about the products. And when I asked about various things he gave a few big buzz words and then he referenced 30 years in the business and happy clients each time- with no real answers- and I see from the lower reviews that is a common response. While I do understand there are products there that were not sweetened with maltitol, there was ALOT that is. At one point I told him I couldnât have maltitol (due to Chrons disease- which is none of his business.) but I guess I pronounced it wrong and said malitol and his response was that the science says everyone can have it (which isnât true) but that the malitol was replaced with maltitol and thatâs a different thing. He touted that they help many diabetics and people with medical conditions, but I donât think his knowledge reflected that unfortunately.
EDIT: I am changing my review down to one star as I feel attacked by the owner. I feel that as a consumer I have a right to honestly give my opinion about businesses and it is apparent the owner can take no criticism whatsoever. Not just on my reviews but on the many low reviews they have. He personally attacks every negative review with claims that the reviewer is just being âsadâ and âhateful.â I am not. I drove 40 minutes to this store thinking it would be the Mecca of sugar free goods- but my honest opinion was that it was fine, but it was not worth a 40 minute drive when I can- and have- found the same items closer to home.
I stand by my review that I was left wanting in the product department and in the explanation of goods department. I asked him verbatim what type of fiber does he use in his products and was met with an âI donât know.â Which is fine but with âover 30 years of experienceâ he should probably know.
I too have degrees and in depth nutrition knowledge and know what mannitol is. But mannitol isnât what he said during our conversation.
As a business owner, it is extremely important to take criticism and fix the problem instead of bashing a reviewer or only discussing positive reviews and that touted 30 years of experience - which he does on every...
Read moreWe went to go pick up a cheesecake for my in-laws since they are diabetic and thought we were being thoughtful as it was nice to know there's a sugarfree option bakery around.
...However this cake wasn't worth $39.99. it wasn't worth $12.
The cake appearance was not professional- huge divets in it as if they let the cheesecake fall from heat in the oven instead of letting it soufflé properly. Very upsetting.
The taste was awful. The crumb crust was far too thick and dry. If I had not had a drink next to me I may have choked to death- akin to Popeyes biscuits (although at least those have some flavor).
The cake itself was just cream cheese. No flavor whatsoever, no layers. No sweetness, even from a sugar substitute. I made a vegan( totally vegan, gluten, and dairy free) cheesecake over Thanksgiving and it at least had some sort of flavor direction to it. (I.e. vanilla....egg replacement powder...sugar substitute, 100% cocoa powder...) they could have used sugar free strawberry jelly at least. Maybe some stevia??
The atmosphere of the store was oppressive and their baked goods show. You can taste the mediocrity. The girl behind the counter had no idea what was going on, the guy "helping" her out was just as aloof. The presumable owner was blocking the way out of the door.
11/10 never going back. 10/10 telling everyone I know to avoid this place.
Still feel apathetic from eating their sad fakecake.
Save your money and make it at home or better yet just find a better bakery that puts flavor into their alternatives.
You can have GOOD sugar free, dairy free, gluten free baked goods. They exist. Don't fall for bland sadness in the...
Read moreI am so thankful that Sugarless deLite exists! I have a low-carb diet because I have LADA diabetes and this place is gold for me. Everything here is sugar-free and that's truly amazing. They stock candy, bakery items, frozen yogurt which was DELICIOUS, all kind of packaged items, including jam, syrup, barbeque sauce, ketchup, low carb bread, low carb tortillas, low carb pasta, chocolates, and cocktail mixes. Even though you might sometimes find sugar free options at the grocery store, Sugarless deLite has much better selection. I was able to get a slice of sugar-free cake which I enjoyed, and you can order full cakes with a few days notice. I took home jam, margarita mix, syrup for my coffee and packaged cupcakes as well.
There was one problem for me! I cannot eat the artificial sweetener Maltitol, as even small amounts give me a huge stomachache. I'm not alone in this, my wife and her sister are the same, and Maltitol is known to cause digestive upset. Many brands now advertise "No sugar alcohols" for this reason. Sadly at least half of the items in this store are made with Maltitol, including all of their fresh chocolate confections, almost all of the bakery items, and almost all of the candy. All the truly tempting sugar-free items I had to pass on because of this.
If you are looking for a gift for a sugar-free friend or relative, use extreme caution in choosing a box of chocolates or cookies that may have Maltitol in them unless you know that your loved one can eat that. As technology progresses, alternatives for Maltitol have slowly hit the market, I hope that Sugarless deLite can get the scoop on this.
Definitely...
