Unfortunate update: Something's changed for the worse, here. Yesterday my wife visited Madina again and ordered the chicken shawarma, expecting the same dish as they have always served. This time she received a very bland and dry meal. The chicken shawarma was just chicken and tortilla. She called to ask why it didn't come with pickle, and the guy that answered (not the nice owner we met previously), was obviously annoyed and rude, attempting to dismiss her as quickly as possible. He said they changed the dish and now you have to ask for pickles. Meanwhile the menu still says otherwise.
Updating my rating from the perfect 5 star, to more accurately reflect the current state of bland food and lack of hospitality. We do not plan on returning, after this experience.
Previous review:
My wife and I were hungry to try something flavorful and different from our normal routine. I'm a fan of street cart chicken and my wife eats enough garlic to protect the entire city from vampires. This hit the spot in all regards.
I ordered the chicken bowl with rice and salad, and the owner offered to make it a chicken and beef combo, so I could try both. As other reviewers have noted, the service here is incredibly friendly and accommodating.
My wife ordered the chicken shawarma combo with fries, and we each got a falafel (only 50 cents each). We asked for the order to-go. After about 10 minutes, our order was ready, and the owner opened and presented everything as he was bagging it, ensuring were completely satisfied.
It was only a short drive home, but the smells of garlic, spiced rice, savory seasoned meats and fries filled the car and my wife exclaimed multiple times how incredible it smelled.
Finally home, we dug in and enjoyed every bit of it. I was really looking forward to the chicken, and it lived up to my expectations, but the beef really surprised me. I'm used to the traditional ground beef found in street cart rice bowls, but this was more of a tender shaved beef.
The rice was plump, not the least bit dry or overcooked, and that garlic sauce will leave you dreaming about it. While the hot sauce was not as spicy as I prefer, my wife loved it.
I'm looking forward to eating the other half of my rice bowl tomorrow. The portion sizes are very generous.
Like everyone else has mentioned, the falafels are delicious! Shaped more like hush puppies than the falafel patties I've had, these were moist and packed with flavor. The garlic sauce made a perfect dipping sauce.
Parking and access is kind of a mess right now, with construction, but we were able to find parking behind the businesses across Main street. Once construction is completed this will be a great spot for foot traffic, but right now it really is a mess.
We will absolutely be back to try the rest of the menu, but I know I'm going to be craving their chicken rice bowls and that garlic sauce for the...
