This place is serious. Serious about family. Serious about being a part of the neighborhood. Serious about the food. Serious about the flavor. Family: Not only do they treat you like family, but many of the actual Pineda family members work here, and it's a very successful recipe. After chatting with Julio for a bit, we learned that so many of the family work there, both front of house, as well as back. Papa Pineda knows his stuff in the kitchen, and it shines through in flavor on the plates. Julio was gracious, kind, and really a joy to speak with. His passion is on fill display and it's easy to tell he loves what he does. Neighborhood: They take the time to ask you where in the area you are from, because they give the sense that they truly want to know they are serving the locals as to priority. They talk about the neighborhood with a sincere love for the area being very evident. Food: Plentiful servings of flavorful, fresh food. Cooked beautifully and served with plenty of fresh sides. Flavor: This is where it gets really good. Now, I woo only speak to what I had, and due to some dietary issues, I'm fairly limited in choices, just about any and everywhere, I go. With that in mind, I had the brisket tacos, and also had the quail flautas. Hickory smoke in both is rich and deep, to the point of unmistakable flavor. The quail should also be offered as a Taco, and if it was, I'd probably be here every week for that, alone. Do yourself a flavor and try those quail flautas if you like smoked meats. These are done right. Seriously. Go see the Pineda family bring there passion to you on every plate and in ever interaction. Support this local business, so that we may all enjoy it for many...
Read moreThis is right in our neighborhood and we’ve seen a it a lot. We decided to go on Valentine’s Day but not for Valentines Day. We forgot. :P. We were still able to get seated pretty quickly however. Here’s our review:
Food:
We started with chips and salsa. Chips were light and salsa delicious and had a little kick of spice. We ordered the spicy Queso and it was good. Had a little heat to it as well but no too overwhelming. The guacamole was very tasty. It was also a generous amount. The small portion was more than enough for 2. We ordered build your own combo. Chicken enchiladas and beef taco. Enchilada was a little dry and the sour cream was a bit goopy but still good. Taco was good. Hard to make a bad hard shell taco. We also ordered the Chile relleno. We chose beef and it was super tasty. Most Chile Rellenos are battered and fried but this one was not. It was covered with a tomato sauce and cheese. Rice and beans were tasty.
Service:
We forgot it was Valentine’s Day and the place was setup for it. They were taking reservations and the place looked pack but we were able to get a table within 5 minutes. The hostess and waitress were extremely nice and accommodating. We got our food quick and drinks were always refilled in a timely manner.
Price:
The prices were very reasonable for the amount of food you got. Family friendly pricing with great portions.
Ambience:
The place is small but quaint. Probably around 20 tables. Great place for dinner or lunch.
Overall, I would recommend someone looking for a great tasting Tex-Mex restaurant with a friendly atmosphere. It’s hidden but it’s gem...
Read moreI had a complimentary coupon for Queso. The waiter asked if in wanted a table. I politely said, No. I have a coupon." He took it fron me. The Manager came over and asked if I was staying? I told him, "No. I just wanted my comped Queso." He looked disgusted. And told the server, while shaking his head, she's NOT staying to eat!" He went to the back. Asked the cook for my Queso. He whispered something to the server to handed k my food. The server came over to me and says, (BEFORE the waiter handed me my food he said), Next time you NEED to dine-in. You shouldn't just come by to get just Queso. This coupon is meant for you to order food dinner or lunch and come in to eat. He hesitated to hand me the Queso. I said, "Ok. Thank you. Next time I may dine-in and bring friends."
They wanted me to spend more money. I get it but I choose where I want to dine-in and spend MY $$. What he could have said, "We look forward to seeing you next time to dine-in for lunch or dinner."
The restaurant did not have many customers. I understand their frustrations for having few customers. I am the customer too. And saying negative comments in a bad tone to me.... Nope I'm not going back to spend my $$. Thanks for my comp Queso and...
