I have intended to visit this spot for many years now, oops.
I never knew that the were on diners, drive-ins, and dives, but they have memorabilia that says "Guy ate here," which is super kool.
Since it was dark outside when I stopped, I couldn't tell you if they always have the lights dim, but I loved the darkness. Often enough I can be overwhelmed by the lighting in a restaurant, but here there is enough light to see and nothing extra. I love it.
The building is eye catching because it is rotated 45° off parallel to the street. And the entrance is floor to ceiling glass windows and doors. Its hard to tell but the roof might be higher in the front than in the back, and it looks inviting, and interesting. (This does mean however that the parking lot is interesting to navigate. I think that there is only 1 driveway entrance to it, so be patient with other drivers, as those who were there tonight were patient with me).
The strawberry gelatina was a new menu item for me. It seems like they flavored flan with strawberry and floated other translucent flavored cubes of jelly in it. It was great. Since it was all gelatine based components the texture was smooth and the same, unlike fruit salad gelatine where the bits of fruit often get hard, or are something to bite into in between gelatine slurps. Try one of you haven't already.
Torta Pastor - wow. That's an amazing sandwich. I think I'm going to get pastor so much more often now. Wow. The avocado, the cheese, the crunchy pastor (pork shoulder), the bread, yum. Comfort food that won't knock you on your back.
Jarritos is tasty, and I often treat myself to it when I'm at a spot that sells it. But I have learned that the juice bubbling away in the machines (chillers?) by the register(s) are often times so tasty. So I'll have to get that another time.
And the perfect portion of chips in a baggie was a great surprise to find. Often times there can be too many at other spots, but they got the amount correct here.
The have high chairs for little ones.
And single occupant (single family) bathrooms with a locking door, that shows "vacant," or "occupied. " One thing that I would like to see is a diaper changing station in the men's toilet. Also since the men's toilet only has a toilet and no urinal, why not remove the gender signs and make both restrooms open for any human to relieve themselves in either? Not a deal breaker, but an update.
Unfortunately, I was surprised to find an extra burrito in my bag when I got home. I hope it didn't ruin another customer's night, and I can't do much about it now. But let me know.
I'm happy that I finally stopped in. It's great that they are...
Read moreMy coworker recommended this spot to me today, and in the spirit of spontaneity, I tried it out tonight! My coworker had never actually visited Ándale, but the lore and hype around this place had piqued her interest.
When we arrived, my husband and I were immediately charmed by the lime green digital menu boards. They were such a vibe. The place was bustling and packed on a Wednesday night at 8 pm. I can’t imagine how busy it is other nights. The service was friendly and efficient. We appreciated the veggie options on the menu.
We ordered a medium horchata, 2 burritos vegetarianos, and 1 tamale vegetariano— all for just shy of $40! The food was prepared quickly, and it was hot and fresh when we picked it up at the counter.
The avocado salsa was the true star of the meal! I’ve never been a fan of avocado salsa until tonight. It was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly salted— with a bit of heat.
The vegetarian burrito was pretty good, but I wished the ingredients were more evenly distributed. Also, I don’t think it needs the zucchini and corn. I think fajita veggies would be more fitting. The corn and zucchini clashed a bit with the rest of the fillings. The rice and beans were delightful.
The burrito came with chips and pico. The chips were crunchy and salty, and the pico was fresh but under salted.
I loved how creamy the horchata was and how much cinnamon they added to it. The vegetarian tamale was super savory and a little spicy. I prefer a classic cheese tamale, but it was still quite tasty.
There’s a market connected to the restaurant, and it was so cool. They clearly have a bakery onsite, and all of the pastries and cakes looked amazing. We obviously had to get a tres leches cake to go. I’m still too full to try it, but it looks incredible.
I enjoyed my experience immensely. I prefer the veggie burrito from my favorite south minneapolis neighborhood spot, but I’d definitely come back here when I’m in the area!
Edit: I had a bite of the tres leches just now, and woah!!! It tastes like Heaven. Light, creamy,...
Read moreWe went there for my birthday. We are from outside of Chicago, and were in MN for a family wedding. That happened to be the day after my birthday. We went here bc of triple D. Thought it would be amazing! It was not. We spent around $65. The girl who took our order laughed at my pronunciation of the menu items, even though I am prettt sure I pronounced them correct. The queso was good, but how can melted cheese not be. I got 2 steak tacos, and one chicken. They both lacked flavor, to where i needed to add the queso and green salsa to them. I usually only need lime, onion, and cilantro. My husband got a burrito, and same thing. He also asked got no beans, and there were beans. He dealt with it. We waited about 30 mins for 3 taco, 1 burrito, the queso and 2 cheese quesadillas, which one was chicken so we had to wait again for another cheese one. The kids loved those. We went to the supermarket to get some dessert to celebrate my birthday. We got 2 tres leche pieces, one vanilla one chocolate. The vanilla was drenched and the chocolate was dry. I did get a delicious coconut lime ball thing that I never had before. The ladies at the register called me a stupid white girl in spanish, and when i spoke to them in my broken spanish, they stopped and looked stunned. I give this 3 stars bc the market was cute and we would have bought more but the kids wanted to swim. They have an ample amount of the candy daughter and I like, and some other fun snacks we all like. This is my opinion and my experience. I do understand that others have better experiences. Get the queso for sure! I could...
