It was a pleasant surprise visiting this place because I definitely did not know about it at all prior to trying the food, but it was a wonderful balance of price, quantity, and flavor, to the point that it made my dining experience worth it! Kataki is nowhere close to an upscale or fine dining place but I felt like I paid for what the food was worth, and possibly even more!

The highlights are definitely the sushi! My partner and I only got the yellowtail and the salmon roe sushi but they both tasted very flavorful, and the koshihikari rice was tasty as well. I could tell that the sushi was a specialty in this establishment. The price was very reasonable as well, with $7 for the yellowtail sushi and $11.5 for the salmon roe sushi. The Kataki rolls were great as well, even if I knew that the spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy yellowtail combination wasn't uncommon. Someone it tasted fuller and more flavorful than similar items I have had elsewhere.

The tonkotsu ramen was solid as well, and I was given a good amount of pork with good texture that tasted slightly different from what I was used to. The broth was only okay, but I know it's hard to achieve perfection for such in a restaurant so I was okay with it. For $14.50, it was worth it!

The appetizers such as shumai, softshell crab tempura, age tofu, and takoyaki were also solid, and once again, for $7.5 each ($8.95 for the softshell crab) it was worth it, but they were not as good as the sushi in terms of economical value. The octopus meat in the takoyaki was hard. The age tofu relied on the sauce for flavor completely. And the shumai was a bit soggy. Regardless, they were all solid enough!

Once again, I did not expect myself to give a 5 rating to a Japanese food place that wasn't the most well-known for its authenticity or fanciness, but the food was tasty and it made me "feel good" here! There are many establishments like this one, but somehow the food here has had more flavor...

I was in the area at the time and was craving ramen. So I found Kataki Sushi and Ramen. I've never heard of this spot, and am always excited when I discover a new ramen spot.

Wanting to have a good feel of Kataki, I had both sushi (Nigiri Combo, I forgot the name exactly), and ramen (Tonkotsu Ramen).

Every ramen spot I try, I also must try their Chicken Karaage. Ramen Spots usually have the best Chicken Karaage. The Chicken Karaage here was... mid. It didn't have the nice crunchy exterior. It wasn't bad though, but not amazing either. I give the Chicken Karaage a 2.5/5.

The Tonkotsu Ramen was... not really Tonkotsu. Tonkotsu is an emulsified pork bone broth. It's supposed to be thick and fatty. The broth here was more of a chintan style, meaning a clear and lighter broth. When tasting though, the ramen actually wasn't bad. It was nice and decent. The broth was flavored really well. The chashu was thinly sliced and delicate, and was savory and subtly sweet. I give the Tonkotsu Ramen a 3/5.

With this experience so far, why did I rate Kataki 5/5? Because of the sushi! Again, I had the nigiri combo, and it was AMAZING! Great fish quality. What I love about Kataki is that they add a bit of flare to some of their nigiri. Meaning for some nigiri pieces they may add an interesting sauce, paste, and/or fish eggs (caviar/roe). See my pictures. My favorite nigiri was the fatty belly salmon topped with roe. This was probably the most luxurious salmon I've ever had. It was a big cut, fatty, and melt-in-your-mouth like. It also came with a California Roll, which was ok. Not only was the sushi good, it was also affordable. This nigiri combo only costed around $25. The sushi here is 5/5.

I came in for ramen, and came out with the conclusion that this may be one of my favorite sushi spots now. Great sushi, affordable, and good service. If you're a sushi lover, you must give...

Me and my bestfriend were looking for a new experience and new taste in food . We wanted to try something new . I found this restaurant online . It had decent review therfore I had to try it out .

We arrived the outside looked really interesti g and not attractive, but once you enter its a gem . The serves are dress with a unique uniform they were wearing kimodos and had an amazing smile and customer service .

We began by ordering sushi the shimunai which is boiled and cooked sushi rolls .

I ordered an Kani salad .

The rolls came and they were original none cooked rolls which it was ok but not my taste .

The Kani salad did not taste fresh , how do I know . The Kani salad you will be able to feel the water of the cucumber . And the imitation crabs would be also watery. The one they got here was mushy and very sticky .

When we ordered our entrees: My friend ordered shrimp fried rice, the shrimp was clean and cooked well . Not the rice had some flavor . This place loves onions (I'll explain in a second) to much onions and corn

I order the chicken teriyaki with the miso soup and vegetables, with the side of white rice . The miso soup was on point, the chicken and the vegetables were very watery . I mean you could see that the water on the vegetables was there mixing with the teriyaki sauce. Not only that but the veggies were not cook all the way , they weren't at their boiling point . And guess what , they was full on onions lol 😆

The white rice was not cook fully very hard .

The best part to me was the cup of water and the canned dr.pepper

I recommend for people to come here if they love shami sushi and an ok meal . Not for me though

I just found this place with a quick 'sushi' Google in the area I was in. Immediately on walking in, I was greeted and seated. The restaurant, while unassuming, has some really cool modern/anime style banners and art as well as window advertising. I definitely loved the branding and kawaii look of some of the elements. At a lot of sushi places you find repeats of the same rolls. While this place definitely has all the staples, they definitely have their own creations which all looked intriguing - Protip, there's a specials white board next to the door and those looked really delicious. Definitely unique. Our server was very kind and quick, granted it was calm when we visited. But the food came out not long after we ordered, and the presentation was fantastic! We also happened to go during their happy hour (which is on weekends as well) and got a few great deals on sushi rolls because of it. Definitely a hidden gem in the twin cities.
