I'm an American who has spent time traveling in both India and Pakistan over the past four decades, so not only do I enjoy Indian cuisine, I have also eaten at many restaurants featuring South Asian food, both in America and overseas. Gulzar's serves the best Indian food I've eaten in restaurants in the USA in many years. We discovered the restaurant by accident because we were traveling cross-country on Interstate 40 and spent the night in a hotel in Richmond. This restaurant was located just a few blocks away so we decided to try it. We have now eaten at Gulzar's twice and enjoyed superior food and attentive service both times (the second time we made it a point to stop in Richmond on another trip to eat there again; we live 1,000 kms away).
Menu items we particularly enjoyed were the bhatura and keema naan breads, along with the lamb biryani (lamb with rice) and the lamb saag (lamb with spinach sauce). The lamb saag in particular is the best I've ever tasted anywhere -- including in India. Another very positive aspect is the portion sizes, which are larger than in most Indian restaurants. Both times we had enough food to box up and put in our cooler to heat up and and enjoy the next night after arriving home from our travels. The prices are quite reasonable, and then when you add the fact that you can get two full meals out of your visit, it's even more of a bargain. Bottom-line, we cannot recommend this restaurant more highly, and we intend to continue eating at Gulzar's on our subsequent visits to Indiana and...
Read moreMe and my wife had a very unique experience here! It was both of ours first time having Indian food and we loved everything about this place from the time we first walked through the door! First, the service was undoubtedly the best in town! Everyone was friendly and smiling faces and they made you feel welcome like they enjoyed your presence there, not like you were just another customer that they wanted you to just order and leave. This place nailed it with the service and I appreciate all the hard work that came from their staff! Next, the food was unlike anything I’d ever had before. I ordered the garlic naan and the chicken lollipop for an appetizer, no complaints about either of them and they were both very delicious! I then had the lamb saag as my entree. I had never had lamb before but the way they had prepared it made me love it! Very unique and delicious! And I got 6/10 for the heat level which had a nice kick but nothing too overbearing. Overall between the food, the hardworking staff and the warm and inviting atmosphere, it was a perfect dining experience and is exactly what I look for anytime I go out to dine in somewhere! We will be back again soon to try the lunch buffet to experience a bigger variety of the tasty meals they provide! Thank you Gulzar’s staff, managers and owners for making this a special dining...
Read moreMy husband and I absolutely love this restaurant! Our favorite place to eat of all time! The buffet is amazing, it’s so nice to try different things each time to see what you like the best! We absolutely love the chicken tacos - our favorite! The lamb curry is amazing, so is the chicken curry, butter chicken, and the mango lamb curry! I always look forward to eating here, and really you can’t go wrong with anything you order here. We love sitting outside with a Taj Mahal, also indoor dining is very nice & beautiful as well. The chickpea salad is also amazing in their buffet, I'm addicted to it! The service is always 100% and for the person complaining about napkins, just ask! They gave us plenty of napkins! Vert attentive staff! I can’t believe the whiners on here. This place is the best! Don't listen to the “whiny” reviews of people who aren’t regulars here like we are, this place is the best Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to, and we will keep coming back! If this place was closer to where we live we would eat here...
