This place is in a seedy side of town. The first thing you notice is the filthy windows which look like they have not been washed in years. The place itself is a dump, and appears never to have been renovated. We picked up our dirty menus and I searched for something with home fries. The cheapest item was with eggs and country ham for $8.19. I opted for the big breakfast at $9.99. The waitress gave us our luke warm coffees and took our orders which took 25 minutes to come out. She was alone and had to serve, do carry out, act as cashier as well as buss boy. I ordered my eggs scrambled soft and they came out overcooked. She took my plate back and it arrived with the eggs undercooked with half cooked slimy whites. Of course the rest of my plate was now cold, which caused the grease to separate out from my gravy which was applied to a small doughy bisquit. The worst was my home fries which came in a bowl, they were so overcooked they had turned to mashed potatoes. The only good thing on my plate was the loin pork chop, although it was really small and was supposed to be pork tenderloin, which it was not. I do not know who has been leaving the positive reviews, but my guess is that they are related to the owner. Avoid this dump...
Read moreI took my daughter here today (Memorial Day) and talk about great. I had read some reviews on Google and thought we would give it a shot. First off, the place wasn't much to look at on the outside but that wasn't very important. They have a menu to order from or can be selected cafeteria style where you grab a tray, select your meat and sides and then pay. The server was very kind and explained to us at the table how it worked since we had never been there before. She also explained everything was homemade and she wasn't lying. I had bbq pulled pork, mashed potatoes and white gravy, and macaroni and tomatos. The portions were VERY generous and everything tasted fresh and absolutely delicious. My daughter had a corn dog and some awesome onion rings. The server was also kind enough to bring my food to me instead of having to go get a tray since I was with my young daughter. Much appreciated! Upon finishing she informed me we both received a free dessert since we were first timers. I had some delicious strawberry pie and my daughter had vanilla ice cream. All in all a great experience and great prices. This place is truly a diamond in the rough and I cant wait to come back so I can try some different...
Read moreAn old school diner with the options of cafeteria-style Hot Bar (steam table items) or ordering other dishes off the menu. I had the Meat & 3 from the Hot Bar, a good-sized breaded pork chop, fried potatoes, collard greens, and brown beans ("soup beans" the lady called them). The coating on the chop was the same they use for their Fried Chicken, and it was so good I kind of wished I'd gotten that instead. The greens could've used a little more seasoning, but a dash of the Louisiana hot sauce they have on every table really brought out their flavor. The taters were good except some of them were "overcarmelized" as they say on the Food Network, burnt black. Oh, but the beans were the star of the show! Southerners generally grow up eating a LOT of beans & cornbread, so we know when they're really good, and Jackson's is the maybe the best I've had-- cooked right, not too much, and very nicely seasoned. They were SO tasty! The folks working there were as nice as could be, too, and the price was pretty danged cheap, so I'll be...
