I usually sit at the bar at taverns to get a feel for the place, meaning the friendliness of the waitstaff, the atmosphere and seating, the quality of the food and drinks, the service, and the overall flow of the place in general.
The atmosphere was warm and comfortable, and the reuben sandwich came with thick slices of reuben, lots of sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and a good serving of thousand island dressing. Both the sandwich and side of battered fried onion rings were delicious and served quickly!
There was a gentleman singing live and playing piano, whom I really enjoyed.
The bartender, however, was not friendly and seemed annoyed by me when I ordered a drink. He did not ask if I needed a menu; another customer passed one to me.
When I said I'd like to place an order, he looked as if I was bothering him. Finally, I asked him when open mic nite was, and he replied. I then asked him if it was by walk-in or sign-up. He curtly replied, "You sign up." I asked, "what time do you open?" to which he answered, and I quote, "Jesus Christ," with an attitude, while handing another customer a drink.
Being the persistent woman that I am, I repeated my simple question of when Poe's opens, to which he finally answered with blatant irritation.
I was really excited to experience Poe's Pub, and it has good things going on there, but the bartender's treatment of me on this Wednesday night after Christmas burst my bubble, and made my otherwise really good experience less than palatable.
And the...
Read morePoe's Pub has been a go-to for me for years. There service is always on point, the atmosphere is comfortable and friendly, and the food is OH SO DELICIOUS. A favorite of mine is Poe's Practically Famous Meatloaf, it is AMAZING. If you like your meatloaf bland, dry, and cardboard like with the red sauce then this is not for you, but if you prefer it juicy and bursting at the seems with flavor and a side of Real homemade mashed potatoes, well you've found it. As far as Service, you can't beat it. They were very busy yesterday when I arrived to pick up a carry out order. I was patiently waiting (barely a minute or two) for one of the staff (bar or waitstaff) to have a moment away from other customers before asking for my meal, when a Gentleman noticed me, left their conversation and asked how they could assist. Not knowing who this was I simply stated I was there to pick up a online carryout order. My order was confirmed, located, and I was walking out less than a minute later. This Gentleman was the owner. Thank you sir for your dedication and for Poe's. Aside from great service, I was chatting with the owner's friend while they were grabbing my food and he made a suggestion to try the pork chops. I haven't yet, but knowing how great the meatloaf and catfish are, I am definitely looking forward...
Read more"Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore" with a little but of Poeism nestled into the pub, I could imagine Edgar sitting in here enjoying a brew. A true staple of Richmond this pub offers a good amount of items to choose to eat. Staff is always friendly, sometimes a bit scattered, but always keep the mood light. Place kind of feels like a good friend's garage, with a bunch of eclectic items through. They have a dart board and there was a portable disc golf hole in the main dining area, so I guess they might put that outside to play. They have a little outside patio, for some outdoor seating. Food is always tasty. Got some pierogies which were very good. I ordered the catfish meal, Blackened, but got the catfish sandwich which was lightly fried. Waitress tried to sell me that it was Blackened, but I don't think she new what Blackened is. Wasn't a big deal and it was still very tasty. Might just confirm my order next time when there. They have a little bar you can barely at. Think they might have a good regular crowd. It might just look short of a biker bar, but it's well worth your time to check it out. "Quoth the Raven,...
