I visited Toast in Scotts Addition on this past Saturday to enjoy the game, drinks and lunch with friends. This isn’t my 1st time to this location, I have come to enjoy the staff (Drew & Nat) in that they are super friendly & great bartenders. I ordered quite a few Mai Thai & was informed that with the purchase of the drink the glass the drink came in, the customer could take home. As stated, I ordered quite a few & had two cups that I took home with me. It was not until today Monday, that the part owner Allison was upset that I took the glasses home with me & that I needed to return them. Most definitely unsettling to hear that especially after my departure. Today I made sure that I spoke directly with Allison regarding the situation while returning her glasses. I let her know that it was never known that customers could only take home one glass with the purchase of a drink (clearly not taking home several) but a set only makes sense. Allison, advised “that it was very busy Saturday & I just see you leaving out the door with cups”. My tab was closed out, my bartenders were tipped very well. The issue here, is that if it were a problem then & Allison saw me walking out the door with the cups, why not address it then & there? It was very passive aggressive & almost dismissive especially when I spoke with her today. Let’s just say, Saturday was my last time visiting this Toast.
I visited Toast in Scott’s Addition this past Saturday to enjoy the game, drinks, and lunch with friends. This wasn’t my first time at this location—I’ve always appreciated the friendly and attentive service, particularly from Drew and Nat, who are both excellent bartenders.
During my visit, I ordered several Mai Tais and was informed that the glass the drink was served in could be taken home with the purchase. Based on that, I took two glasses with me when I left, assuming this was in line with what was offered. However, on Monday, I was surprised to learn that one of the part-owners, Allison, was upset that I had taken the glasses and insisted they be returned. Naturally, this was unsettling to hear, especially since the issue was never mentioned during my visit upon my departure.
Out of respect, I returned the glasses and spoke directly with Allison. I explained that it was never made clear that there was a limit of one glass per customer and that taking a set seemed like a reasonable assumption (having a set & purchasing more than one of the beverages). Allison mentioned that it had been a busy Saturday and that she "just saw me leaving with cups."
My tab was closed properly, and I had tipped the bartenders generously. If there was a concern at the time, it would have been more appropriate to address it directly in the moment, rather than after the fact. Unfortunately, the conversation today felt passive-aggressive and somewhat dismissive.
With that said, Saturday was likely my last visit to this...
Read moreI stumbled on this place looking for something different for a business lunch. We decided to try it from the reviews. Parking was not easy but it was well worth it. The food was AMAZING with large portions and great flavor. We tried the she crab soup first. I dont think I have ever had she crab soup that good in the Richmond area! It had a lot of meat in it and was more like what I expect in Maryland, than Virginia. I got the Cuban Rueben and my associate got the Pesto Chicken Ciabatta sandwich. They were both Outstanding! The Cuban Rueben is a creative sandwich loaded with corned beef, ham and pulled pork, with slaw instead of saurkraut and is my new favorite sandwich! Our server was only on her second shift ever there and was very nice and attentive. I wish I had got her name. The manager/owner is floating around checking things and I get the impression that he knows exactly everything that is happening in the place from food prep to customer satisfaction. This joint needs more parking, but my buddy and I intend on working our way through the menu and a really hope managment sees this and starts selling that crab soup by the qt!!! I don't go into Richmond often, but this place will be one of...
Read moreWent on a Fri evening around 1900. That's gonna color my entire perspective because as you'd imagine it was quite busy at this time. Parking was interesting because this place is so popular, they seemed to have overflow parking into the gravel lot next to the building. A little off putting but not a pain point. The pain was the seating was very tight. So much so I've considered removing a star because I had to yell over the screaming children to talk to my guest. However, I understand this isn't really the fault of the establishment. They just need more real estate. What made up for this was how delicious the food was and the fair pricing.
I ordered the chicken tacos and my guest got the shrimp tacos. Both stellar honestly. I'd definitely return but perhaps at a...
