Known for their rich, creamy textures and inventive flavors, VanDyke's offers a delightful array of options that are sure to tantalize any ice cream lover's taste buds.
One of the standout features of VanDyke's is its commitment to crafting unique flavors that you won't find anywhere else. I recently had the pleasure of sampling their offerings, and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed. Van Dykes is worth checking out for a dessert experience that feels like the way your grandparents would have done it.
This is the ice cream shop that everybody in Ridgewood and Glen Rock goes to after a winning softball game or a great day at Graydon Pool.
It is in a residential neighborhood and therefore a local secret spot that is out of the main area where tourists visit.
The ice cream is good. Nothing special, but good. And I like going because it is nice to support local business, especially one that has been around for as long as Van Dykes.
The downside of visiting Van Dykes is the parking lot. They can't expand the parking because it is a residential neighborhood and people are idiots and enter through the exit or park where ever they want and block other people who are going in the proper way.
There is also no real sitting area, so in the midst of crazy drivers in a crazy parking lot, you have to watch out for people (especially kids) eating their ice cream in the middle of the driveway.
I recommend parking on the street across from Van Dykes instead of parking the lot. It is not far.
I hope what I have written doesn't deter you. Van Dykes is worth checking out. Just park smart and you...
Read moreAll my experiences were from 1963 (when I was just a tike) until when I was in my 20's... Yes, this place has been around awhile! Back then it was a place you went to get ice cream and bring it home, or sit in the parking lot in your car with the windows rolled down and eat it. I remember the last time I went was in the fall of 1982. I was attending UNC@Charlotte and these two girls in my very large Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship group (Sally Wilson and Angela Caudel) were absolute ice cream fans. I promised them that when I came back from Thanksgiving Break (on a Sunday night I believe it was) that I would have two tubs of ice cream from (1) Van Dykes and the other from T&W (another noted Ridgewood fixture... don't know if it is even there anymore). I brought back Chocolate Chip Mint and Chocolate-- all the way from Ridgewood, NJ to Charlotte, NC. The girls, and everyone else that shared it that night in Moore Dorm loved it!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sure that if Van Dyke's is still there, it must still be good. My Mom used to go there when she was a kid growing up in Ridgewood... This is back in the 1940's and 50's... It was called Rafetto's back then, and was the reason we kept going after it became Van Dyke's in...
