Sook Pastry: A Parisian Oasis in the Heart of Ridgewood Tucked away in the charming town of Ridgewood, NJ, Sook Pastry offers a delightful escape into the world of French pastries. Stepping inside this quaint bakery is like entering a Parisian haven, with the aroma of freshly baked bread and delicate sweets filling the air.

The display cases overflow with an array of tempting treats, each a work of art. From delicate macarons in vibrant colors to flaky croissants and buttery pain au chocolat, Sook Pastry offers a taste of Parisian elegance. The pastries are crafted with the finest ingredients and meticulous attention to detail, resulting in a flavor and texture that is simply divine.

Beyond the visual appeal, the first bite into any of Sook Pastry's creations is an explosion of flavor. The buttery layers of the croissants melt in your mouth, while the macarons offer a delightful balance of sweetness and texture. The éclairs are filled with rich and creamy custard, and the cakes are decadent and moist.

But Sook Pastry is not just about pastries. They also offer a selection of savory delights, such as quiche and sandwiches, perfect for a satisfying lunch or light snack. The breads are crusty on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and the sandwiches are generously filled with fresh ingredients.

The atmosphere at Sook Pastry is warm and inviting. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always happy to answer questions and offer recommendations. They take pride in their craft and are passionate about sharing their love of French pastry with the community.

Here are some of the highlights of Sook Pastry:

I love great French bakeries, and this one does not disappoint. Thankfully, their cakes and pastries are not as sweet as the average ones I've tried in recent years. With so many exquisite options on display, it was hard to choose, but the cashier was incredibly helpful. She patiently guided me through the selection, explaining which desserts were gluten-free, which were lighter, and which were richer, helping me pick based on my preferences.

My husband and I decided on "The Godwin," a gluten-free hazelnut and cream cake, and "The Lincoln," a chocolate mousse cake with a liqueur-infused bottom. Choosing a favorite was tough, as both were delicious. You can truly taste the care and passion they put into their baked goods.

The bakery also has a window into the kitchen, allowing you to watch the bakers prepare cakes and fresh bread. If you're in the mood for something more substantial, they offer a lovely lunch menu, including crepes, French toast (with or without proteins like eggs, bacon, or sausage), sandwiches, quiches, and soups.

For gifts, they have a variety of thoughtful options like specialty chocolates, premium coffee, and boxes of their cakes and tarts.

I was beyond thrilled with their decaf coffee. It was rich and bold, the perfect pairing for any of their desserts. Definitely worth the trip!

The service was fast and efficient, with nine bistro tables available for seating as you enjoy your food. The ambiance is cozy, and parking is metered...

Been coming here for a year now, everything on the menu is pretty great. The young staff is super friendly but lack knowledge of what's in menu items...eg are certain cheeses are made from goat or cows milk but quickly Google it for you 👍 Occasionally like 1in5 times I'll get a dry crepe.

The reason for the 3 stars are with the Circus not the food but it's enough to warrant the rating. 1) When you come here on the weekends it's packed and only 1 person is making crepes/eggs/French toast on the public view hotplates. You'll have to wait 25-30 min for your hotfood and by then you'll be done with your cappuccino but will not stand in line again for another cappuccino (which take 5or10 min when it's packed) to enjoy your hot breakfast with. 2) They let the trays and dishes pile high (see pic) and when I advised them the young staff only cleaned up the dishes but left the greasy trays piled high and they expect someone to sit there...patrons like me only sit there out of desperation from no seating. 3) it's so hot in this place on the weekends you are BEGGING for someone to walk in and let a cool breeze in. 4) Lastly the Google or Apple Pay never works and I have both so it's their service and since I live a few blocks away I often go into town early morning for a walk with just my phone.

These things can be corrected especially when I always see the young wait staff laughing it up for minutes on in and not working when...

Searching for Bergen County’s best pastries, pies, cakes, and cookies? Just the sight of a fresh French or Italian pastry shop can activate one’s sweet tooth. From traditional flaky baked goods to epic decadent creations, look no further. Voted 2025 Best of Bergen for Place A For A Sweet Treat, my partner, our friends, and I ventured yesterday inside Sook Pastry on S Broad Street in Ridgewood for a return visit after 2 years. Upon entering the cozy seating area with six bistro tables, we were invited to wood paneling that featured the warm and inviting vibe by the light fixtures hanging from the ceiling. Pictures of bread further adorned the walls, with a shelf filled with cookies and other goodies available for purchase. A great see-through window in the back of the store is where customers can see the bakers at work in the kitchen. The staff are in back of the pastry cases filled with delicious full-sized cakes, tarts, breads, baked goods, and unique desserts. We were greeted by Gabbi and decided on the Raspberry Brioche, Peach Tart, and Tropical Tart. The pastries were light and not overly sweet. A tad pricey, but it’s authentic and delicious. The chef who owns and runs it was trained in Paris to master the art of making croissants and pastries. The service was quick and efficient. It’s no surprise that patrons like to indulge in “the finer things” in life once in a while, which we can recommend.
