I have been here only twice. First time was fine the second was different. I got the same thing both times a bagel double toasted with cream cheese. I open my bagel which had no cream cheese and was burnt. I understand I ordered it double toasted but there a difference between double toasted a burnt. Also the first time they put my cream cheese on my bagel. If I wanted to put cream cheese on my own bagel I’d literally go to the store buy bagels and cream cheese. She tried to explain that the cheese cheese wouldn’t be “thick” if they thought that they should have let me know when I ordered. I also got a another bagel with eggs and other toppings they fried the egg, over cooked it then put it on the bagel. I have never been to a bagel shop where they put a fried egg when I didn’t ask for one. Let alone a over cooked one, maybe this is just how they do it but I would have liked to at least been asked how I want my eggs and not just assume because I absolutely hate over cooked eggs so there wasn’t even a point of me getting a egg because I just took it off. I also went in to get more cream cheese because they didn’t give a lot on the side and it cost 1.26. I gave her two dollars and the cashier gave me less then 25 cents back. Hmm that makes sense, right? I didn’t even correct her because I was so upset and couldn’t deal with them anymore. I just think if they are going to make the same over order multiple times they should make it the same or let me know they made it differently. It is also kind of unsanitary in there and dirty everything looks old. They need to communicate more with customers when it comes to what they are ordering instead of doing whatever they want and not telling anyone. “The Bagel” would never. Also the way they seem to handle criticism seems harsh,...
Read moreCame in around lunch time and most varieties of bagels were sold out, so we tried two other bagels I would not normally order. Also ordered and paid for a sub but then was told they didn’t have the meat to make that sub. Substituted for a different sub (the New Yorker which was recommended by the cashier). When I got home I realized one of the bagels they gave me was the wrong one. The vinaigrette they put on the sub tasted like generic Italian dressing and was not good. The bread for the sub was very mediocre and disappointing. I was born in the New York area and in my opinion this restaurant should not have NY in the name because it is not authentic food. Chains like Jersey Mike’s and Einstein’s bagels are even better than this place
UPDATE and response to owner
You claimed I was offered the choice to wait for more Turkey to be roasted but that is not true; your employee only offered me the choice of a refund or a different sandwich. Also, you should reread my review. I never said the cashier chose a replacement for me, I simply said he RECOMMENDED the New Yorker. The fact that I went to your restaurant shows that I do care about supporting local business. It’s quite unfortunate that your sub bread lacked quality, your vinaigrette had a weak flavor, and also that your employee gave me the wrong type of bagel (ordered sesame, received a plain one). As I stated in my original review, it is my opinion that you should not use NY your name because the food I received was laughable compared to authentic New...
Read moreOH. MY. GOODNESS!!!! I ate at Alicea's NY Bagels & Subs for the first time on Thurs & it was SO AMAZING!! I haven't been able to post a review since then because I broke my phone screen but I've since replaced it, so I can now tell you all how phenomenal my sandwich was. I got the 12" New Yorker without Ham (& they subbed another meat for me without me having to ask). I thought MAYBE I would ended up with a second meal....However, I could barely finish the first one! Not that I'm complaining about the size, especially since they ARE equal to prices. At first, when they told me the total, I did think it was expensive, but then when I saw how much I was getting, how quality & tasty the meats, bread, cheese & produce was, it was SO WORTH IT!!!! And yes the staff was very nice! Sorry no photos. But the presentation was very NYC (in ABQ).
P.S. Go in expecting it to be more Alicea's NY SUBS & Bagels, than Alicea's NY BAGELS & Subs, IMO.
They DEFINITELY have bagels, they just have MORE Subs. In fact, when I asked for a veggie sandwich on a bagel, I was told they only did breakfast sandwiches on bagels. I did find that rather odd, perhaps it was a mistake (as the owner wasn't...
