It was a dark and stormy August night in Rio Rancho when my wife turned to me and said we should do something random with the kids. We then turned to google to light the way to random Saturday night family fun. With a curious tone she said to me âwhat about bowling?â I responded intrigued âokay!â Bowling a find family memory from my childhood when my family would be able to afford the finer things in life. We loaded the family into our small but powerful Nissan Rouge, dodging the violent rain drops as they fell from the clouds produced by thors rage. On the ride over the rain was violent but in a calming way. The drops splashed off of the windshield blurring my view of the Rio Rancho streets. Upon arrival to Tenpins and More we were greeted by an older woman and two young men. They informed us the for my family and I to partake in the sport of bowling it would be $90, my wife turned to me in disbelief. Myself scared to disappoint the children and their glowing faces of happiness and excitement decided that that was okay. We got our shoes and were off to reignite the bowling flame I once held as a small child. Upon filling out the bowling roster we were off to find a ball fit for a bowling king, the search found four different balls that appeared to be beaten and battered by years of abuse and poor care. It was sad really, if only the balls could talk. I feel they would tell a sad story of sadness and neglect. We returned to lane eight in hope of spares and strikes, unfortunately we were greeted with problems and despair. As the epic game of bowling was underway our lane began to malfunction and destroy the hope of a family excited for family fun. The lane mocked our skills and granted skills to others who didnât hold the legendary skill of bowling. We were in shambles upset that the $90 hard earned dollars I earn as a blue collar man was spent on such poorly maintained services. I found one of the young men to inform him of the troubles myself and my downtrodden family were experiencing. He informed us that the particular lane we were playing the fancy game of bowling on was broken and awaiting repair. My wife looked at him with confusion and sadness asking âthen why were we given this lane?â He responded with âI donât knowâ and walked away. Defeated and distraught we pressed on with the game. Battling through the malfunctions and wrong scores we made the best of it. My wife and youngest step son journeyed to the place of snacks and refreshments with the hopes of carbonated nourishment, they were greeted by flat and iceless beverages. The resilience awarded my oldest step son with his first strike, as the ball collided with the pins in a rewarding display of skill and luck the screen displaying our scores went black. I again ventured to the front desk and was greeted by the other young man, I informed him that the tv displaying our confusing and incorrect scores had gone black like the sky outside of this beat down and dismal bowling alley. He reacted with swiftness taking hold of a tv remote. He swiftly moved to the tv above our lane pressing the power button and reigniting the flame in that tired and obsolete television. We were all struck with confusion and sadness as the screen did not place my sons well earned strike upon his score line. I turned to the young man with anger boiling in my soul. I informed him that I have had it with the issues and demanded compensation for the countless issues my family has been struck with. The young man stated he would go speak to the manager on my behalf. I welcomed this suggestion with high hopes of rewarding compensation for the dismal performance of this establishments equipment. The boy must of been lost to his short attention span and teenage thoughts as I had to go on an adventure in search for the boy. When I located him I asked him if she had told him anything of triumph and reward, he said she did no such thing. I then made my way to the counter fueled by sadness, anger and the disappointment my family felt. The manager refused to refund me my...
Read moreWent to Ten Pins tonight around 7:15. As soon as I walked up to the counter, Iâm told that a lane wonât be available until 9pm due to a bowling league. I understand that, however it should have been indicated on their website. I suggested to the manager/owner Steve that they put this on their website and he responds with disdain and says, they donât list any open times on the website for this time frame. Actually, they do. The website lists bowling times/prices by the hour or game for Monday-Friday, before 6pm and AFTER 6pm, in addition to all of the glow bowling times/prices. This lead me to believe a lane would be open. Either way, thatâs not the reason for the 2 stars. Ultimately, itâs bc of the way Steve addressed my suggestion. I was polite about it, didnât express any attitude (maybe I had RBF?) not sure. The reason for our visit tonight was because my daughter wanted to have her birthday party there in March, but after this experience, Iâll be looking for a different activity. Interestingly, I hadnât looked at the reviews prior to this (Iâve lived in RR for 20 years and always liked Ten Pins) but after reviewing them, it doesnât look like their party hosting abilities are up to par, so probably not missing out on much. Bottom line, Ten Pins has a hold on the bowling market in RR, so this one review wonât deter too many people, but be advised that if you are looking for a warm and fuzzy experience, you WILL NOT find it at Ten Pins. Side Note: I screenshot the web page listing the prices and hours, hoping to be able to post it here, but canât. When going back to the Ten Pins website now to view prices and times, I receive a 404 error. So maybe Steve did take my suggestion,...
Read moreWe were there at the end of a tornamant so we waited for a open lane and decided to play pool at the bar. The bartender was rude while serving us and absent when we had a pool ball issue but it wasnt a big deal, there was a child playing in the 21+ area (presumably the bartenders child). when a lane was open and we were bowling a employee came by and threw my friends beer out. There was about 1/10-1/8th of a beer left. Not a big deal but he was a little upset and being scared for my beer i recommeded he voice his opinion. Allegedly when speaking to the owner they offered to replace the beer which he eagrly accepted. Whatever the case, the bartender from before approached up with the beer from the trash and litterally yelled at us. We were making her "look bad" and she complained about being a mother. She could have just said they wouldnt be able to replace the beer but she elected to stop our game yell at us. I then had to complain about the rude confrontation we suffered from the bartender. The managment and bartender attempted to speak over me but i spit out my complaint and told them to leave me alone. Then after being told they close at 10:30 they froze everyones games told us they close if there and no bowlers and closed at 10. We will be going across town to silva lanes in the future, and i recommed everyone else to do the same.
In hindsight, i beleive the bartender may have...
