I wanted to give a middle-of-the-road review for Sushi OK because not everything was bad. My three sons and I ate here after moving the oldest into his dorm at UCR on Saturday. The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant is really cool and we liked the vibe! We each ordered three different rolls to try and wondered "what is soy mustard sauce?" as each one had that listed (as well as nearly all the other rolls on the menu). We decided to try it. All three rolls came with spicy tuna inside and that's it...no variations were really available such as DFS, crab mix, etc which was a bummer. All three rolls were drenched in soy mustard sauce which I can only liken to yuzu sauce mixed with dijon mustard--unsettling flavor for sushi! It overpowered the fish and was all we could taste. Very citrusy, tangy, and strong! Being a Japanese woman and raising my kids to appreciate and indulge in Japanese cuisine at home and around California, I know my way around sushi. This was different--it is a fusion type style with some other ethnic influence that I do not know. I don't recommend for anyone who appreciates authentic sushi and wants the flavors of the fish more than sauces. This is a great recommendation for someone who is dabbling in sushi and wants to try an Americanized other type of sushi. My second qualm was the price--very overpriced for the quality. The rolls were loosely rolled and, as I mentioned, the flavor was off. A roll being approx $25 is wild--and we are from Sacramento where everything is overpriced! Typical pricing for regular rolls is $17-20. $25 is reserved for specialty rolls including lobster and other more expensive cuts, not spicy tuna and sauces. My last qualm was the service. We were not greeted or helped for a few minutes as we stood awkwardly staring at other diners waiting to be acknowledged. We were not spoken to and just ushered to a table and given menus. We were checked on about 10 minutes later. Maybe longer. Our waitress never came back to check on us again after our order was delivered to the table--we had empty drinks (needed more to wash down the soy mustard flavor!!), empty dishes, etc the entire time we ate. At the end, a gentleman came over asking if we wanted ice cream on the house but I said no thank you and asked for the bill. It was $120 for the four of us to eat a subpar meal and sadly, it was our last meal with my oldest son before dropping him off and heading back home to Sacramento. I was hoping for something amazing based on the reviews. For fun, I had my other son read all the 1-2 star reviews on our drive home to see what others were saying in the mix--spot on!! Read thoroughly to get a clear idea of what you're getting. This is the longest review I've ever left for an establishment, so that's...
Read moreCame here with an intimidatingly pretty and personable girl, so the stakes were high. As soon as I sat down, though, I was extremely comfortable; who's to say whether it was the calm atmosphere inside or the hypnotic back and forth of her silky hair? The temperature was cozy and warm, thanks either to the spicy tuna or the sunny lake water in her eyes beaming at me from across the table. Though we sat right next to the kitchen I couldn't hear any hustle and bustle; it was probably drowned out by her wonderful laugh, loud in my ears, and the most relatable thing from baby driver for me were the tapes he made of sounds, words; the waitress's song. Maybe if I could keep a snippet of Jessica's laugh like that and play it on a loop, I might be compelled to drive like that, too; to shoot to kill, too, to hit the road at 2 am and never look back; but when I do look back it's at the gray Elantra zipping away and I have forgotten once again, what I can't ever seen to remember: my parole date has not yet been decided.
7/10, not enough fried onions and not enough space between my lips to fit the Jeff Roll...
Read moreSushOK more like sushi AMAZING!! Don’t get this place confused with sushi okoku it is NOT all you can eat here, however if you are looking to spend a little more money for high quality ingredients and fish then this is the spot for you. Their selection is insane and have a lot of variety when it comes to what kinds of food you could order. Sashimi, carpaccios, sushi rolls, even grilled food as well. Dont be fooled by the large amounts of options you have, every single item is made with very good quality ingredients and everything tastes amazing.
The sushi chefs are also amazing and are very friendly and fun. If you are coming on a date and want to get to know the chefs make sure to sit at the bar they will take great care of you. If not then sitting at a table is a great option as well because the servers are all very helpful and friendly as well.
When i came here I got the Amazing Salmon roll, Jeff roll and a variety of sushi and everything tasted great. I do recommend the amberjack sushi if you want something with a little citrus and savory.
