I was genuinely excited to try this new sushi restaurant just a couple miles from my house, hoping it could become a regular spot for my wife and me.
Unfortunately, my experience was far from what I had hoped for. I placed a to-go order in the restaurant Tues, 2/11 at 4:30 PM, expecting a quick and efficient pickup since it was quiet. Really though, I was one of the only customers inside at the timeāthere was just a family dining in, and a handful of workers sitting at a table chatting.
I sat waiting and watched as several Uber Eats orders were filled, and two other customers who arrived after me ordered and received their food before me. My order was for 2 people, mind you...1 hibachi dinner, fried rice, and 3 sushi rolls. I was sitting right by the hostess stand, where my order had been placed, and yet no one seemed to notice or care that I had been waiting for 10, 20, then eventually 30 minutes and counting.
After 40 minutes of waiting with no update, I finally approached a waitress to ask about my order. She checked my name, pointed to a corner of the restaurant, and casually told me my food had been sitting there for ājust a few minutes.ā Right, just a few minutes. I had been waiting in plain view for more than 40 minutes at that point.
When I finally got home (Waterset neighborhood- roughly 2 miles away), I found out that the hot food was cold, and while the sushi remained cool, it was packed with the hot food, a poor practiceāespecially when hot and cold items should be kept separate.
This cold hibachi and sushi suggests that my order sat around long enough for the hot food to warm the sushi as it cooled, then all of it got cold together (just a few minutes, right?). No chance that could make someone sick, and my sick stomach the next morning must have been from something else...right?
What compounds my frustration was the lack of urgency or accountability from the staff. I called to request a refund for the 20% tip I had left, and was told a manager would reach out. More than 2 days later and I have still heard nothing. I was told they were new and busy. Thatās why Iām not demanding a refundābut I sure as heck wonāt be tipping for a crappy experience.
So much for earning the trust of locals as a new businessā¦Food was decent, but I wonāt be going back. Iāll spend extra to get Uber Eats...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was really excited about Rock & Roll Sushi opening in my neighborhood and decided to check it out with my wife and daughter. We were dressed nicelyāhell, I even had on a suitāso we were looking forward to a great dining experience.
Upon arrival, the hostess greeted us and informed us there was a 30-minute wait, despite multiple empty tables. When I asked about it, she explained that the kitchen was behind, not that the restaurant was full. That was understandableāI figured it was a new restaurant still working out some kinks. I then asked if we could sit down while we waited, but she said no. Instead, she took my number and told us weād receive a text when our table was ready. Again, I was patient, giving them the benefit of the doubt.
We waited outside for about 20 minutes. Iām not trying to play the race card here but during that time, another Black couple arrived, spoke with the hostess, and soon after, left without dining. I didnāt hear the conversation, so I wonāt assume why they left, but it did stick out to me. Meanwhile, my wife and daughter went into the Planet Smoothie next door to grab a drink, and I stepped outside to enjoy the nice weather.
As I waited, I noticed multiple couples enter the restaurantābut they never came back out. Then, two cars pulled up with groups of diners. Out of curiosity, I decided to step inside and see how many people were actually waiting. To my surprise, I watched as a party of six was seated immediately, along with the other couples who had arrived after us.
I walked up to the hostess, and she suddenly acknowledged our party of three as if she had just noticed us. At that point, I just shook my head and walked out. Shortly after, a different employee came outside and asked if we were ready to be seated. I told her, āNo, weāre good.ā
My wife, however, went back inside to speak with the manager. Unfortunately, he took no accountability for his teamās actions, dismissing our concerns entirely.
This experience was extremely disappointing, especially at a brand-new restaurant that should be eager to build a positive reputation. We...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were excited to try out this new sushi spot, hoping to find a great local gem. Unfortunately, our experience left a lot to be desired.
From the start, ordering was a bit frustrating. The girl taking our order didnāt seem to know what tempura sushi was and thought we were asking for tempura crumbs inside the roll. After explaining I meant deep-fried, she hesitantly responded, "Yeah, we can probably fry it." š Not the most reassuring answer.
Then, I ordered a chicken fried rice and was asked, "Side or full meal?" Who eats a side of chicken fried rice? After some back and forth, she said, "Nevermind, I was confused," but never clarified if it was actually a full meal or if they even offered it as a side.
When we got the food, the fried rice still had carrots and onions despite my request for no veggies. Worse, it had small bits of burnt food mixed in. The portion was shockingly tinyāno bigger than my index finger. No exaggeration. While the flavor wasnāt terrible, you only got about five bites out of the entire dish.
The sushi, however, was the biggest letdown. It was hands down the tiniest sushi Iāve ever seen, and unfortunately, the flavor didnāt make up for the size.
That being said, the girl who helped us when we arrived was super nice and seemed to be handling a lotānot just guests coming in but multiple tasks at once. She was doing her best, which we appreciated, but the overall experience still wasnāt enough to make us want to return.
We genuinely wanted to like this place and support a new local business, but based on this visit, itās a pass for us. Hoping...
