First of all, I found this place on YouTube, which had been recommended as one of the best places in New Jersey for pizza. I came all the way from the Bronx with my family after leaving the American dream mall to eat here. I won’t bury the lead here. I should’ve just ate at American dream. First of all. The service sucked from the door. For a moderately packed establishment on a Sunday we had to wait about 25 to 30 minutes to be seated, which wasn’t bad considering the size of the place and how many people were lined up outside. Many people left their name and walked outside to wait for the tables, but you had to go back inside every now and then to see if your name had been called. That’s a strike right there the hostess, who seated us, placed us at a table underneath an air conditioning vent that was leaking water onto my wife. We ended up having to rearrange our seats to avoid the leak. That’s a strike. Then we watched as other people came in and was seated and their waitress proceeded to work their tables while we sat patiently waiting for our waitress who never came. I had to physically stop a waitress to ask who would be dealing with our table. When she finally arrived, she had an attitude took our order and walked away as if we were the bad guys , that’s a strike. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt because it was a Sunday. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt because this wasn’t institution from 1912, but there’s no reason why my food should have taken almost an hour to come out , while other people were getting their food right away. I waited so long for my food. I ultimately walked up to the hostess and asked for the check and change my order to to go. It was no way I would continue to stay there. I grab my my pizza and loaded up my family back in the car in the pouring rain we left. I spent $93 on three pies a plate of vodka pasta with sausage and a picture of tea. The pizza was basic at best. Just because you call your pizza, tomato pies doesn’t mean you’re selling gourmet food. This was a basic pizza with basic ingredients I would find in the Bronx. I didn’t need to travel over 80 miles to get something I could have gotten around. The corner service was terrible. Food was terrible and the price unreasonably high considering what we got in...

Read moreUpdated post. I first tried Papa’s during the COVID pandemic with takeout, and the pizza was as outstanding as advertised on social media—good enough that we ate it right in the car and I couldn’t wait to return.
I recently returned, and while the pizza was still excellent and the meatballs were outstanding, the dine-in experience was frustrating. The hostess seemed completely uninterested in helping anyone with anything beyond taking payments. She stood at her station either on her phone or not paying attention while the staff clearly struggled to keep up. I stood next to the "please wait to be sested sign," waiting to be seated, and she didn’t even acknowledge me until a waitress pointed me out. She did the same thing to another customer who arrived after me. As we ate, I watched her ignore a spill just feet away until the customer who made it waved her down—only for her to do nothing but call over the already swamped servers. When I went to pay my bill, the one thing she seemed interested in, the hostess curtly told me to move aside to stay out of the wait staff’s way due to the very tightly packed dining room. When I commented, “Yeah, it’s a little tight in here,” she replied, “I’ll have to tell my husband to get a bigger restaurant,” before moving on to usher two more customers out of the way. Yeah, outstanding pizza, but the hostess’s obliviousness and poor attitude left a bad taste. If I go back, I think I'll stick to getting takeout and eating it in the car. Sad because it really is...
