This restaurant is beautifully decorated, with a lovely and unique square ceiling chandelier, nice paintings, and a classy red interior with gauze cream curtains. There are some traditional Asian decorations by the kitchen area.
While the decor lends itself well to more formal meals, such as business dinners or dates or dinner with your partner's parents (as the table next to us was doing), you would not feel out of place at all coming here for a casual hangout with friends. I feel it's rather rare and requires a delicate balance to be able to encompass such a large range of possible atmospheres.
The fact that Yummy Sushi is not too visible from the outside does give a bit of a hole-in-the-wall feel, like you've found this nice secret spot. It does get very busy around Lunar New Year, though.
When we went, it was fairly empty despite it being dinner hour on a Sunday, which surprised me because the food is delicious and the service is wonderful. From what I hear, though, the place is popular in the afternoons after school for bubble tea, and I can see why. The milk mango bubble tea I had was delicious, and came in a nice glass jug. Personally, I always like when drinks come in glass instead of plastic.
For the food: We had a salmon mango tartare for the appetizer. The food came in a heart shape, which was so cute! You can tell all the ingredients are incredibly fresh. For the main, I had the Rt33 special roll with the modification of no jalapeño. The roll is made of fried soft shell crab, soybean paper, and seaweed salad. I was impressed that when I asked what the wrapping was (which was the soybean paper), our waitress was able to answer our question on sight. Some restaurants I've been to, the servers really just bring the food from the kitchen and aren't able to answer questions about the food, but it was clear here that the waitress was very knowledgeable.
My dining companion had a Hawaiian special roll, which contains king crab and avocado with mango salad on top. Uniquely, the roll is fried on the outside, which is very interesting and gave a nice crunch. Personally, I preferred my Rt33 roll, but my dining companion really enjoyed their roll, so there's something for everyone. There's a huge selection of special rolls as well as more typical rolls, as well as other sushi/sashimi options and traditional Chinese dishes, so lots of great options. I'm really looking forward to trying the other appetizers and special rolls on future visits.
For dessert, we had a tempura ice cream, which is always a treat. The portion is quite large and done perfectly - the vanilla bean ice cream (it's the high-end kind of vanilla ice cream, not your typical vanillin-flavored ice cream) is still cold but the tempura fried outside is just warm, with a bit of chocolate sauce drizzled on top.
I like that we were never left waiting for anything. Our water was filled regularly and while the table we were at was perhaps a tad small for us with all our dishes, it wasn't too bad. I do feel the food is good value for money. For us two, the bill came out to $55, and goodness knows I've had far too many meals in a similar price range which weren't even close to as good.
Overall, our experience here was absolutely wonderful, and I'm really looking forward to...
Read moreThis was the most disgusting sushi I have ever had in my life. I also got violently sick after eating. The fish is not fresh. The man I spoke to in person that claimed to be an owner or a manager was a completely ignorant and dishonest person who has no business speaking to customers or running a business. Taken I went in hours later and told them how sick I’d gotten—thinking they’d at least offer me a refund (and an apology for making me so sick)—the man said I can go to the hospital and if they can prove it was the food from his establishment that made me sick, he’d refund me and pay all medical bills. Now, he must’ve thought I was as dumb as he looked because I know there isn’t a way to prove this. A doctor can’t prove what I ate after it’s been digested and caused severe food poisoning. But what if I didn’t know that and took him up on that backhanded offer (especially after I told him I didn’t have health insurance)? This man literally tried to give me medical bills he knew I couldn’t pay and he said this with a slimy smile. Horrible people run this place. The food is awful. I did a parasite cleanse afterwards and if you’d seen the results I guarantee you that you’d never go back here again. Something is off with their kitchen, their fish, and their management. Worst sushi I have ever had in my life; and I’ve eaten sushi all over the tri-state area and the country. I’m astounded by their high rating. I can’t believe they are still in business.
Edit: In response to your response, Yummy Sushi, I absolutely did call. And then I went in person to discuss it and I was treated horribly. I’m absolute sure it was your location right in the center of Robbinsville NJ near the apartments and across from where the recently shut-down Rite Aid was. There’s a Starbucks down the street as well. I understand why you’d want to claim I have the wrong establishment but I can assure you that I am absolutely certain of this. The only way you could make it right would be to go back in time and treat me like a human being. You should’ve remembered that I could write a review and expose you for your wrongdoing. I’m surprised you don’t remember me—because I was so sick and lightheaded from vomiting all day I accidentally tripped and as a result the disgusting leftovers of your food slipped from my hand and projected at your window facing the street outside on my way out. ...
Read moreI ordered from here the first time. The phone customer service was great. The food was great, no complaints there. The very poor experience was related to the delivery.
Due to so many scam-related phone calls, I have a setting on my phone where any phone call from an unsaved phone number is silenced and automatically sent to voicemail. So when I was asked which phone number to put on file, I gave my boyfriend’s phone number instead, as he answers every phone call.
However, at the time of delivery, he was in the garage detailing my car while listening to music and missed one call, but he called back as soon as he saw it. As he was calling back, I checked my phone (which already had two missed calls even though I put his on file), so I approached the front door and opened it.
A woman walks up the door and with her voice raised, says “I came here 3x’s already!” Confused as to why she was 1.) giving me an attitude because 2.) she was calling my phone number instead of the one I put on file and 3.) she didn’t ring the doorbell, I said “oh.” She handed me the receipt and although I had the intention to tip, as I always do, I didn’t want to interact with her any further, so I quickly signed the receipt and handed it back to her. Of course she reminded me when she asks “How much did you leave for tip?!” I quietly updated the receipt and handed it back to her.
We have a doorbell with a camera on it tied to our Google home. We have 4 systems throughout the house. I was working on a laptop in the room next to the front door. Had she simply rang the doorbell once, upon her arrival, we would’ve been notified throughout the entire house I would’ve gotten the door. This could have very easily been avoided.
I’m very conflicted between ordering again in the future because the food WAS good or not even bothering for the sake of just avoiding having to interact with the delivery...
