Great food! Went here for late lunch with my family. Food: 10/10! Authentic flavors here~The Peking duck does not disappoint. One of the must-have whenever I’m in town. The softness of the wrap and the abundant and tasty duck with the other add on for the wrap plus the sauce is a perfect marriage~ even my grandmother who is more picky now ate it with great appetite. The soup is delicious with the veggie. It is slightly on the saltier side. Great to balance with sweeter things like the sweet dimsum dishes. Dimsum dishes- The shrimp rice wrap didn’t quite have the abundant shrimp but still tasty and fresh. Definitely one of the better ones I’ve tasted. Shrimp taste great! I love their Bo luo bao and bbq stuffed bun. They don’t skimp out on filling like some other places do. We also ordered the beef stir fry noodles (gan chao Niu he) and it is a solid taste. And another dish that I didn’t eat. Great for family, couples and kids. Not a lot of space for big birthday parties, please take a look at photos from others in size of place. A couple of booths and ~3 big table. Payment method: yes; pay up at the front Cost: ~$100 once you add tip (great deal! Especially for the 3 dish + 1 big bowl of soup + 3 dimsum, party of 4 didn’t finish all the food). Bathroom: has what you need, decently clean. Easy to get and out of. Spacious. Parking: plenty of parking! Tip: if you want an order, you need to call for it and remind them that you want it soon/or ask when is it coming out. Also if you’re in line, remind them of who lined up first. Do not expect typical highly attentive service. If you been to enough Chinese restaurant, these are great skill to have. Service: staff are nice folks, and willing to accommodate needs like asking for spices if possible. Please do remind them if you need something.

I’ve travelled the world from Hong Kong to Bangkok and many places in between sampling various Chinese foods…heck I even had it dab snack in the middle of Baghdad, a couple miles away from one of Sadam Hussein’s palaces during an international conflict. Cheng’s is in my top 5 Chinese restaurants from the Metro Detroit area. Don’t expect Panda Express. IMHO it’s much closer to mainland China style, but its more transitional and easier for the western taste buds. A good indicator of authenticity is the percentage of patrons of Chinese heritage…note its higher here. You’ll find an array of dishes from Dim Sum style to more traditional Mao Po Tofu. I find the menu to offer a wide range. I’m sure you can find something tasty. Service is on par with many traditional restaurants. To me it runs leaner than most and has longer wait times. For over 10 years they’ve continued to delivery great eats. I think it’s certainly worth a try.

This is the best dim sum place in metro Detroit. We drive 45 minutes from Novi to eat here, even though Shangri-La is only 15 minutes away. Unfortunately, Shangri-La has gone downhill over the years — the food quality and value have dropped so much that it’s no longer an option. Cheng’s, on the other hand, is far superior in both taste and value. It’s also accompanied by the classic Guangdong service style — where servers drop your food on the table without a word, don’t bother announcing what the dish is, and seem to have permanently banned “thank you” and “you’re welcome” from their vocabulary. Authentic to the core, for better or worse. I just wish there were more places like this closer by. For now, it’s absolutely worth the drive and the time.

Never again. Found this place 2 years ago and the food was decent. Back in town this year, so decided to go back. Hostess (owner?) took one look at us as she seated us and promptly removed the traditional place settings which included the chopsticks. Guess she thought we didn't look like we would use chopsticks? Had to ask her to bring the chopsticks back, which she did with an attitude, slapping them on the table. Also, was not given/offered the dim sum menu, only the standard menu. Didn't feel like making a big deal out of it, so ordered off the standard menu. The food was so bland. Almond Boneless Chicken was not fried long enough, so the thick batter on it was half cooked and gravy/sauce was bland and tasted like cornstarch. Beef dish was also not flavorful. We figured we could do better taking home and doctoring up, so asked for containers. Hostess practically argued with us when we asked for one extra carryout container so that we didn't have to combine the 2 entrees and rice. She was disrespectful and rude the entire time we were there. Ended up throwing everything out the next day, as the chicken had an odd, greyish white color after we pulled off the undercooked batter and beef was too tough to reheat. Terrible experience...

DThe decorations are nice but that was about it. What they serve was not the same thing as what they put on the menu. whether you have one person ordering or five people ordering it, they bring out the exact same amount of rice. This is despite the fact that you pay the full price for each order. The menu said fried rice but they bought out white rice and when I asked about it, they said that's what they always served so why did the menu disagree? Our server had absolutely no idea what she was doing. when I got my tea, I had to wait another 15 minutes for a cup to actually drink with it despite continually trying to get their attention. the prices were extremely high it for the portions given compared to many other Chinese restaurants I have been to. the staff also found it quite necessary to stand in the eating area and talk so loud that it sounded like a high school cafeteria. I couldn't even hear who I was with despite the fact that she was right across the booth because the staff assume that since they were speaking in Chinese and only half the customers could understand the language, it gave them free range to practically scream at each other for over half the time that we were sitting there. I would not recommend this...
