The SURPRISINGLY GOOD cheesesteak at Elk Ave Tavern in Rock Hill, SC #foodreview #charlotte #charlottenc #phillycheesesteak #rockhillsc

The Elk Avenue Tavern was fantastic. So much so, that I had to return a few more times in a week. We were told we had a 45 minute to an hour wait, but our table was ready in about 20 minutes or so. We shared the 16oz. ribeye, and I have got to say, that is one of the best pieces of meat that I've had in a long time. I've been thinking about that steak ever since, that I'm going back again this weekend to get it again. I met a couple next to our table and they said they drive over 30 minutes away to order their wings because they are so good. So a few days after my first visit, I went back for lunch to try their wings and they were right, they were worth the drive. Apparently they smoke them, then grill them and they were delicious. Seamus was our waiter and he was awesome but sadly I believe it was his last night there and was moving back up north. The only recommendation I can make is, get there early, and you can still possibly expect to wait, they do not take reservations. One thing to keep in mind as well, they do not have a phone. I found that quite odd because I needed to let them know I was running late and I had no way to let them know because I couldn't get a hold of anybody. All in all, I've been wanting to try this place forever and I'm so glad I finally did because it's my new favorite place to go. I have been telling everybody about it! It is, "A Must Try Place!" I'm going back for the ribeye this weekend, but I'm going to have to go back again for another lunch time so I can have their Reuben. I have a menu bucket list just for Elk Avenue Tavern 😁 I will definitely be a frequent diner from now on!

Elk Ave Tavern is a fantastic addition to the restaurant scene in beautiful downtown Rock Hill. What started out as a food truck with a vision has now come full circle with opening their brick and mortar and they have absolutely nailed maintaining their signature dishes and bridging the move by delivering total deliciousness along with impeccable service with attention to each and every detail. It’s clear that all hands are on deck and each staff member CARES about the total experience their patrons have while dining. The menu is compact, but each dish is impeccable. I ordered the blackened shrimp quesadilla, cooked to perfection laced with pickled red onions and fire roasted corn schmelted with cheese and grilled to perfection, paired well with their spicy margarita. Hubby had the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich which we both knew all too well and loved from their food truck days. The in-house pickles and hot honey add the special-touch flavor to this mega sandwich, one that you pick up and just don’t put down until you’re done. Both of us ordered their crispy brussels, do not leave without experiencing these wonderful crispies! Be prepared for a decent wait, but don’t let this deter, grab a drink, hang out and wait for your table or snag a seat at the bar where you can expect to receive the same level of service that you’d get tableside, this place does not disappoint, cannot wait to eat here again!

This place is a hidden gem in the heart or rock hill. The atmosphere is what youd expect at a tavern, full of patrons, a little loud, and dimly lit. The wait staff are prompt to get you seated, quick to get your drinks and apps out. The nachos with the pub chips are a work of genius. Beer cheese dripping down the bottom, jalapeno crema for a suprise bite now and then, pickled onions to counter the spice from the blackened chicken. What more could you ask for. They leave you wondering whats next with every bite and the portion is enough for 4 easily. Shortly after that our entrees came, fortunately with enough time to settle those nachos down a bit. I ordered the stout braised beef sandwich, since the lamb burger was unavailable, and my brother in christ what do they cook that with. The toasted bread, mozzerella, and the combo of the stout braised beef with the carmelized onions is the best beef sandwich combo i have eaten in my life. Potato salad was chosen side just for a little mix up, which was good as well. The comically large shrimp on the po boy was the choice of the wife, and she loved it. I could tell from other diners they also found the size of the shrimp to be a challenge, but nevertheless a great taste and value. I thoroughly look forward to the future of this establishment and hope to return in the future. There are definitely some options for this menu to expand a little for lunchtime using the same ingredients that i see well loved through the various dishes. Hint hint, blackened chicken wraps with that pickled onion need to happen. Thank you so much to the team for the...
