Having lived in TX and the Southwest for over 40 years, I have always been skeptical of TexMex beyond the Red River but our local friends group recently enjoyed a dinner at Rock Taco, and I was impressed. Tacos and salsa were spot on, and I like that they provided each of us with our own small bowl. The queso needs help though....very bland and missing that sweet-hot balance with peppers and onion. The tacos were generous in portion, and the fish taco options were the hit of the table.
The larger plates were tasty....flavorful....correctly portioned. Just make sure you ask for enough extra soft tacos. I can see how the bar and kitchen can get backed up given the limited number of seated tables....only 2 can handle a party of 5 to 6 guests. Come hungry, but be patient. Worth the wait.
Solid option for FM/RH area TexMex. This is not a Chili's for the family type spot. Upstairs bar suggests that they are looking for 25-35 year old patrons loving cerveza and tacos.
Overall, solid food, nice vibe and great drinks/beers/margueritas. Worth more...
Read moreWe went to try the place after waiting a long time for it to open. I saw some of the negative reviews, but I can only imagine how hard it is to open a new place. Plus this is the same owner as Burgers and Barley which is pretty reliably good. The atmosphere is a 10, and they really put a lot of money into the place. Our server Aleah, surely spelled wrong, was fantastic. I got the fish and grits and my wife got the shrimp quesadilla. It was nice and hot when it arrived. We had a few drinks as well. We are big tequila fans, and this is the only place I have ever seen that has legit tequilas at the bar. I saw Fortaleza, El Tesoro, Codigo, Arrete, and many more. If you know, you know these aren't at most bars. On the way out we spoke to the owner and he is super kind. Our table was on the second floor and had a great view of main street. To the guy in the silver Porsche, we got to see you try to parallel park. It gave us all...
Read moreWe had a wonderful experience at our office Christmas party! Booking and communication was seamless and done primarily through email— very friendly and accommodating. We were seated in the upstairs room, where there was a full bar. Chips, guacamole, queso, and salsa to start were fresh and delicious. The cocktail menu had many options and everyone was pleased with their margaritas and drinks. Lunch portions were generous and the food was so yummy! I had 3 tacos, but 2 would have been plenty. Service was wonderful— our server was so kind and patient with us as a large group. Drinks and food came quickly. Atmosphere is wonderful— fun decor and such a great location. It was neat to be able to see downtown Rock Hill. Highly recommend for a group lunch/dinner/happy hour and I look forward to visiting again...
