TLDR; Good beer selection, try the Playing the Board if its on tap. Shuffleboard! Prices seem higher than other places around town.
Slow Play is the latest addition to Rock Hill's growing craft beer scene. The location is tucked in behind Winthrop University, maybe only 1-2 miles from Legal Remedy and Dust Off.
The building is beautiful. Listening to owner Dan speak about it, it's clear that a lot of time and money went into creating the space. As the name suggests, they offer a slew of games for patrons to enjoy -- most importantly shuffleboard!! (although the table plays really slow).
On my first visit, they had a "mistake" beer called "Playing the Board". It was a crisp, floral IPA -- and at the time I thought it may have been the best beer in Rock Hill. I hope they wrote down the recipe for that mistake.
On the second visit, the beers were more of a mixed bag. There was a sour that my wife liked, but I wasn't blown away by anything else.
The major downside seems to be the prices. Slow Play offers 3 sizes for each beer, which is great. However, you can expect to pay upwards of $7 for a normal-sized pour. Everyone has increased prices lately (looking at you Legal), but it feels like you can expect to pay an extra $1 a beer here compared to some of other establishments...
Read moreToday was our first time here. Went based upon others' recommendations. Driving entrance definitely needs work. I would imagine it gets crammed with college kids when Winthrop is in session, since it's basically located behind the university. Good variety of drinks on tap. The food truck on premise looked to serve up good food with giant portions. We didn't eat, but noticed what others were getting. It has a nice, casual, typical ambiance of a good brewery. The only real complaint for today was the live entertainment. I used to manage a band in NY and was also a talent scout/booking agent for many years, and this blue grass group (I won't mention their name) was absolutely the worst band I have ever heard in my life. They were so bad that my wife and I couldn't even finish our drinks. We had to leave. We do plan to go back to give the venue another chance, because we really liked the spot. But we'll definitely screen the talent first. So, talent... 👎😖💩. Venue and variety of...
