One of the best in the qc. A new king has been crowned. Easily the best calzone, without question, in the Quad Cities. There isn't one like it around. I was lucky enough to get my hands on one before there is a line out the door to Chicago. I wish there was a way to compare it to something. Unfortunately, you'll more than likely have to wait in line for the Mozz from Buffalo, New York. Old school spicy sliced pepperoni. Parmesan coated dough knots that melt in your mouth. The light and airy bubbles of the dough would make you think it's deep fried, however, it's a 5 day fermentation period that makes you wait for perfection. This review is based more on the food side of the business - the bar itself is a Rock Island staple, a great place for live music and to grab a drink. I was very excited to try ‘The Food Mechanic’s’ menu. The pictures on social media look amazing and it’s great that Rock Island has added another legit option to it’s lackluster food scene. I was with a party of four others and none of us were very impressed with our meals. 3 had burgers, 1 had the chicken sandwich with waffles as buns, and I had the BBQ spaghetti. I went to see Blues Rock-It who I hadn't seen before. I had also never been to Kavanaugh's. I love both the band and the place. I'm not sure about the atmosphere. It was definitely under construction. To get it in, I walked through a framed out wall. There were a variety of tables and chairs, so a bit of church basement/garage kitsch. The service, however, was terrific. Friendly and real.
