My wife has Celiacs disease. I strongly advise anyone with this issue to avoid Millers Ale House. Also for patrons who are food allergy free⦠you may want to read further. We sat down and explained the food allergy to our server. We ordered potstickers as an appetizer⦠my wife asked what she can have and the server knew nothing about the allergy. Concern number one. The waitress then went to ask the ācooksā in the back about apps and food my wife can have. She comes back and states my wife can have the potstickers. Concern number two. If this is what the ācooksā told the waitress then you make your own judgement on that. If you know anything at all about Celiac you cannot have wheat or flour plus a variety of other things as gluten is found in many products including seasonings and other things. Next the manager comes over and states it would be helpful if we could explain the allergy and what it is she is allergic to. Concern number three. (Should have left). Nervously my wife ordered a salad with shrimp and a grilled chicken zinger app. Both had blackened seasoning on it. Long story short⦠today she is ill. I am pretty tired of incompetence and lack of accountability. It is amazing that one can walk into a place where their sole job is to serve food and no one including the person in charge or a person in charge of ācookingā food has any idea about food allergies. Again if you are sensitive to any type of food or have any allergy to food I strongly suggest avoiding this place. Also the lack of knowledge regarding food in a restaurant is extremely concerning for the food they may be serving as it seems they donāt know what it actually is. Side note the atmosphere is very standard and typical for an āale houseā or American bistro you can find anywhere today. Past the server was not very active and present. Just know what you are doing if you are going to open up a business, especially if peopleās health...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI very rarely leave negative reviews, especially for restaurants since I worked in them for a decade. However, we had a very disappointing experience at MAH - Rockaway tonight. First, it took forever to get drinks, our appetizer, and our meal. We went at 5:15 with a zero wait time. Also, for an ale house, I had hoped they'd have more than a run of the mill cider like Angry Orchard. Second, the meals came out cold.
Our most frustrating experience was with an allergy. At least 3 times we very clearly told our server that our daughter has a dairy allergy and she can't have butter on her food. Our server responded adamantly each time that the vegetables were steamed and do not have dairy/butter.
The vegetables came out and clearly were not just steamed; they were seasoned and had some sort of a broth, which looked like butter mixed with the water from the steamed veggies.
We brought it to our waiter's attention and he again said, no they're steamed, but that he'd triple check. Comes back less than 30 seconds later staying "I think they gave you the wrong ones."
What about the word "allergy" did not make sense or did not trigger some sort of more critical thinking on the part of the waiter and on the part of the manager/kitchen staff?
Both my husband and I worked in restaurants for over 10 years and whenever a table mentioned the word allergy, we immediately alerted the manager and the kitchen.
We are not only disappointed that the waiter did not take our daughter's allergy seriously, but seemingly the manager did not either since we never saw him or her throughout our entire meal to apologize for the mishap.
Fortunately, our daughter's allergy will not result in anaphylaxis, but there are others who are not so fortunate. You need to take food allergies more seriously; and if you can't for operational reasons, be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI really really like this place, this was our 2nd time going. With that being said, I hate giving a lesser review because of staff issues but...... this 2nd visit was NOT awesome.
First thing we walk in there's at least 3 employees standing in the front, not a single one said a word to us. When the girl did to seat us she was not personable AT ALL. After being ignored a smile or "enjoy your meal" would've been nice š¤·āāļø
Next we waited literally 8 mins for anybody to come over and take our drink order. I only know this due to the fact that my 4 year old was insistent on getting his chocolate milk so my annoyance level was measured in time! š due to the fact this took so long we also ordered our apps and food at this time.
After that.... our drinks took long enough to come that our food was also arriving š¤¦āāļø but not our apps sooooo.... when the guy brought our food we were pretty surprised. At that time, our waiter FINALLY came over to see what the problem was!! That just annoyed me. Like what heck! If he had checked on us even once or idk brought our drinks he would've realized there was an issue!!
It wasn't just us though because as we were waiting on the check which of course came nice and quick I overheard the table behind us receiving an apology for a forgotten dinner!! š¬š¬š¬
I put my card down on top of the check to pay, and the waiter came over SNATCHED it up off the table and said "cool I'll be back" irked me really good.
They did make it right though, the person who brought our food out to us gave us our apps on the house so that was nice.
The food is really good. The burgers are really delicious the kids zinger chicken tender things are good but bland I think they do that on purpose for the kids though.. uhm the mozz sticks are super good overall I'd go back for the food but the staff...
