Our go to for pizza! We love The Mobster! The pasta, the garlic knots, the pizza, salads... you can’t go wrong with any of it. I also love that I can get pressed juice to apologize to my body for all the carbs the next morning! They have the best pizza and pasta in Rockford.
UPDATE: 4/13/22 We had a really disappointing experience with Mama Mia’s this last weekend. We have been regulars throughout our time in Rockford and as you can see, we loved this place! I went from 5 to 3 stars because over the last 6 months we’ve had issues. This weekend was the most disappointing of them. We placed an early order a few hours before they opened (placed order around 12:30, they open at 4) via DoorDash. We’ve done this successfully at many other restaurants and thought nothing of it. Around 4 we got an update via DD that the food would be ready by 4:40. That was perfect. My husband ran to pick up the food and was there at 4:40. Upon arrival he was informed that they never checked their DD orders and that our food had not even been started. That wasn’t ideal but even that would have been understandable. However they: were completely out of lettuce and unable to make a salad, told my husband that their family deal (which is still on both DD and their website?) isn’t actually offered anymore (it’s a large pizza, garlic knots, 1 spaghetti and 1 mostacolli), and even if they did they no longer sell spaghetti… They were also out of Italian beef so our Mamas Monster went without. It was just a mess. We loved the food here and never used to have problems, but after our last few experiences we are left wondering where to get decent pizza...
Read moreCame to Rockford to visit a few friends that attend Rock Valley College, on my way through town I noticed this place, I thought to my self "While I'm in town I might as well try as much local food as I can."
Walked in the door and I was greeted politely and with a smiling face by a teenage girl. She was helpful in offering suggestions and local favorites, I thought that I should bring a pizza with me, to share with my friends, I landed on the BBQ chicken pizza, not only did I get a good amount of pizza for the price, but I was able to watch the pizza chefs prepare it right in front of my face and put it in the pizza oven. I also decided to try the Italian Beef for myself, I ordered it with peppers and onions.
My biggest pet peeve with Italian Beef sandwiches is when the bread is too soggy and falls apart, finally, but Mamma Mia's doesn't disappoint, their Italian bread is thick, sturdy and fresh. Easily the best Italian Beef I've ever had.
As for the pizza, granted it didn't get eaten for about 25-30 minutes after I left the restaurant and met up with my friends, the chicken pieces were huge, and the bbq was so flavorful, made for an overall enjoyable pie.
Side note: While I was waiting for my food, I was lucky enough to meet the owner's mother who happens to work there and help out, she was a one of a kind person, very nice and caring.
Next time I visit Rockford, you can bet I will be...
Read moreMamma Mia's came to me on a whim one evening when I was looking to try something new for delivery. Pizza sounded good, and since Mamma Mia's is relatively closer to my home than other places, I decided to try them out! The delivery process was fine, but that is besides the point, let's talk about the food!
I had ordered a large one topping pizza, garlic knot, and 2-liter soda combo for $25, not too bad of a price overall. The pizza itself was perfectly fine. I was happy with the amount of cheese and portion of topping and sauce, well balanced and good flavor. The pizza tasted a bit like any other pizza so it was certainly not extraordinary, but it was good. The garlic knots, however, were garlic nots. There was virtually no flavor to them, boring and bland bread bows of sadness lacking any hint of garlic or salt. They were advertised to come with marinara sauce for dipping, but I did not receive any, which made things worse as there was nothing to dip these dry disappointments into in an effort to give them some kind of flavor.
Overall. Unimpressed! I don't think I will be trying Mama Mia's any time again soon, but every place is worth trying to once to see if it can truly break them mold. This place falls in line with every other pizza place in the 815, the pizza is just fine and good. I recommend you at least try Mama Mia's once to experience it on your own in an effort to support a...
