Edit: I was charged before tax was 43.62 and 49.10 after tax which isn't right. I was taken back by it when I seen it cause I figured something was wrong. So I had said no tip. I thought I had cash. I didn't so I went to the bank. I brought in the tip to the waitress. I just figured out the tax rate would have been 2.84 so I was charged 2.64 extra for no reason. Of course the copy that I signed had it all on there and mine just shows 49.10 but what they didn't count on was me taking a picture of the bill for my first time review. This gives me a yuck feel like I'm getting scammed out of money. We ate at the Sunshine Family Restaurant yesterday night and will definitely be back. The food was great and they had great prices. My kids got full and we even have enough to take home and eat again. The fried pickles were a bit pricey but I was surprised at how big the serving size was at that they will dill spears. I order the taco salad which came with a choice of soup. I got the navy bean soup but didn't get a picture. My three year old helped me eat it and he liked it. The taco salad was 10.95 and more salad than taco but since taco bell doesn't sell it anymore I wanted that. It was very good and I'd order it again. My sons had spaghetti and apple sauce with a chocolate milk, hotdog with fries and chocolate ice cream, chicken strips with fries and a strawberry shake. The strawberry shake was in a large styrofoam cup. Each kids meal was 6.99 but worth it with the ice cream. Our waitress was attentive and responsive to our needs. I never had to look for her or wonder where she was at. The restaurant was clean and had several older people dining in which made it feel comfortable and relaxed, at home vibes. I overheard one table talking about thats all you can eat and another talking about how large the portion was that they would have to take it home. I'll be back to investigate what those were.

Honestly 1 star is generous which is very upsetting i used to love this place but there was absolutely no welcoming vibe whatsoever just to start no proper introduction just ill be with you in a minute then when we ordered i went to order my same meal that ive been ordering for a couple years which is a john skillet switch onion and peppers for tomato and broccoli and egg whites but was told the cooks will get mad if i do a custom order so i had to order as she said a custom skillet and tell her what i wanted on it but received only broccoli and cheese with regular eggs and my wife ordered a guacamole and cheddar burger, but only received the guacamole and based on what the lady had said, and the way things felt there we were afraid to send our food back because we don’t know what condition we would have gotten back in, but for me if I eat the yolk in the egg I could potentially die so I was told and have been told for years that I have to pay the extra two dollars and get the egg beaters which is egg whites but they told me that egg beaters is just regular just fake eggs The photo that I am adding into this is the photo of my food dumped directly from their plate into my container and I just opened it to take a picture and show that there’s no tomato and that those are definitely not egg beaters, egg whites they are just plain eggs.

The waitress was really pretty great, making sure to take care of us well. However, the food was not great. It wasn't the worst, but for the price there are plenty of better options (and probably even for less). It was clean and comfortable, but the food was mediocre at best. Maybe it was just the time of day (weekday around 5:30pm) or we should have ordered breakfast, which reviews seem more positive toward? Instead we ordered dinner. Very few highlights and plenty of negatives. Onion soup came with no cheese on it and when I asked they said it would be an upcharge. So, I ate it without cheese and was glad I didn't pay for the upcharge because it was very bland. Fries were kinda soggy too. Mashed potatoes were lumpy, but at least they were real. Quesadilla was good, but the salsa for dipping was basically just crushed tomatoes. Italian beef had burnt bread and they slapped a bunch of pickles on the plate for some reason. Of course the Italian beef soaked up the pickle juice pretty much ruining half of it. Probably won't go back...

I just had one of the most humiliating experiences of my life at this restaurant. I have PTSD and have a service dog in training that I bring with me everywhere. I brought him to this restaurant and I had a hard time getting him under the table, which made sense because he is an over 100 pound dog and the tables are small. I finally got him under the table and he moved a few times to get more comfortable but ultimately bothered no one around us. After sitting there for a few minutes a women came over yelling at me about the fact he is not a service dog. I calmly explained that he is a service dog and that he is in training. She told me he jumped (which he never did) and I explained to her that he made a few small mistakes and I fixed them within a few seconds so legally she could not kick me out for it. She then asked what services he provided and I explained his ability to create barriers and help me out of flashbacks in which she claimed he was an Emotional Support Animal. (Which just showed her lack of knowledge because ESAs get no training at all) and I quickly corrected her to tell her he is not an ESA. She then asked for papers because you could easily buy vests online. Which showed her lack of knowledge once again because there is no legal way so certify a service dog and buying those papers (online by the way) are completely bogus. She ultimately told me they would not serve me and they had the right to decline me service over my service dog in training. I have anxiety so I ultimately gave into her request for me to leave right away and broke down into tears on my way out. Even the lady sitting behind me was completely shocked and told me that she was in the wrong for doing that because he bothered no one. He was not disruptive to others, at most I was disruptive for trying to teach him to lay under tables (as he couldn’t be blocking the walk way and he struggles under small tables). I have never been so humiliated over having a disability in my life and I will never EVER go back there. Especially when the owner him/herself didn’t come to talk to me and had some rude lady yell at me. Thank you Sunrise for reminding me how uneducated some people are on service dogs and thank you for disregarding my disability completely and making false comments because he didn’t get under the table right away. Please don’t go here. I would never want someone to...

Food was subpar, but worst was the customer service/management. Prices were low, but, as they say - you get what you pay for.

Baked cod fish was fishy-tasting and dry. Mashed potatoes were very lumpy and tasteless.

Stick to breakfast items here or a Texas BLT - that looked pretty good!

Our experience and why only one star:

Our waitress was very young (17?) and sweet, but did not provide silverware, did not bring syrup for the pancakes, did not refill our water until asked after they were all empty, and she charged us extra for fries that were supposed to come with the meal.

The waitress asked my son what kind of potatoes he wanted when ordering, and listed off all the choices.

When my son asked if she had forgotten the fries awhile after being served the entree, she apologized and went to check what happened and said nothing about it being an extra charge.

When paying our bill at the register, my husband asked about taking off the extra charge. After waiting for the cashier to make three different trips to the back to speak to the manager, the manager finally came up to the register.

The manager asked if my son ate the fries. Since he had, she couldn't take the charge off the bill.

It was only $1.75, but after so many things I chalked up to our waitress's inexperience, how long we had to wait for a manager, how poor the communication was, and how poor the food quality was, I left with a bad taste in my mouth.

Also I will note, the meal my son ordered was a meat skillet - nothing in the description said mushrooms were mixed in, which my son does not like. I should have asked the manager to take the skillet off the bill, as he ate very little of that and, apparently, that is what decides whether they charge you for it.

Overall, our waitress was very inexperienced and forgot the basics (silverware and syrup and refills). Management either does not care, or is not well versed on good customer service. And the food was just not very good, even for a basic...

(Potentially life threatening experience if I took another bite!) Ok... I'm was surprised on the positive reviews on here, so sadly I'm going to have to break that trend. I went with a friend for some breakfast, and I started with a coffee which wasn't great, but fine. I ordered an omelette that came with toast and hash browns, and also a waffle with strawberry's. The food arrive extremely fast! We were like wow, never gotten food so quick at a sit down restaurant before. I dug in. The omelette was just ok, and edible. Honestly the toast was probably the best thing out of everything I ordered because it was browned perfect. The hash browns were absolutely horrible. You'd think a professional cook would be able to cook something as simple as frying hash browns. It was all burnt on the top and mushy on the bottom, and then they stirred it all together. Honestly the worse hash browns I ever had, and I had my 10yr old son cook me hash browns before. Then I moved on to the waffle. Right away I noticed it had black hard flakes around the edges. So waffle maker probably had leftover burned residue on it. I got 25% into eating it, and suddenly noticed a LONG SHARP SHRED OF METAL that was mixed in 😳 THANK GOD I saw it, because If I swallow that I could have had medical problems for the rest of my life or could have even died! I told the waitress and pointed the piece of metal and she asked if she wanted another waffle and I told her no. She later explained that it was from the metal scrubber they use for cleaning. The bill came and they did take the waffle off the bill, but definitely did nothing to go out of their way. If someone asked me about this place, I would tell them to definitely avoid at all costs! Unless I knew they have changed their quality of kitchen and hired some half way decent cooks. I don't usually leave many reviews, but this NEEDED to be addressed and brought up to...
