Update 7/22/24 We are regulars to Mi Placita. We’ve been loyal through many of the changes that are being made to the dishes and menu. Some we didn’t really agree on, but still continue to resort to other loved dishes, only to find out they have also been modified. We first noticed the Classico Salad, they stoped putting spinach and reduced the amount of asparagus in it, dressing was slightly different too. We then noticed that ever since the lady server that was always there left, our guacamole was just not the same. The chile relleno sauce completely changed, and the chiles were burnt rubbery. The rice and beans the last time, they didn’t have the flavor they used to, in fact they didn’t have much flavor at all. Their sopes are smaller. This time the chips were soaked in oil (see pic). The enchiladas suizas along with the salad they served it with have completely changed, but surprisingly the sauce on them tastes good, dressing is also very good. Mi placita is changing into a completely different restaurant, not sure how I feel about the changes as there have been more negatives than good ones. For now we have decided to stay away a bit and visit once we feel like we are okay to try the dishes we loved with a different twist. I do want to add that presentation is much better and colorful.
Servers are attentive as long as you don’t get the younger ladies, as they tend to lack speed in making guac, and cashing you out.
The atmosphere definitely changed and is now more appealing, it now feels like a restaurant you can sit in without feeling out of place.
Original Review: We love Mexico classico so when we heard Mi Placita was a branch, we had to try. We’ve been customers since day one and everything we try is absolutely delicious! We’ve had enchiladas suizas, ensalada clásica, chiles rellenos, tortas, sopes, tacos, caldo de res, pollo Acapulco platter, tres amigo platter, steak chimichanga and veggie fajitas . Everything is always on point!
Service is always great, fast, friendly and knowledgeable, dine in food comes out hot and in a timely manner. As far as food to go, i would rate it a 4 out of 5. It really depends on who packages your food, the really friendly woman will never miss a thing, where as the younger boys will always miss something, just check your food and it will be fine.
Atmosphere is a little deceiving at first, but I assure you it’s a full service restaurant with a very stocked bar, that serves great margaritas and Micheladas.
Parking is full during afternoon hours but it has never been an issue, lighting in the parking lot at nighttime could be better but it will not stop us from coming back each time. Plaza also has handicap accessible ramps by the nail salon.
We highly recommend Mi Placita and we give it a...
Read moreWe made birthday reservations for 6 people days prior we come in and are in formed the basket of chips they gave us is the last one. The waitress spoke very limited English my friend had to translate back and forth. Two people in my party of six ordered chiles relenos on the menu it says they come with 2 , they only got one each and when they asked the staff they just said it would discount the ticket. We had to ask multiple times for refills and were never asked how the food was. It was our table and two others and a few pick up orders. The music was turned down the whole time so you could tell everyone was listening to our conversation. The checks come and the chile relenos tickets weren’t discounted and the waitress got an attitude when asked about it. The manager thankfully stepped in and took care of it. After we paid for our meals the music was turned up excessively loud like they wanted us to leave. I have came into Mi Plactia many times when it was the old owners and had no issues at all now with the new owners I won’t be returning. Not having chips is crazy enough but to not have enough of a main entree and not inform the customer before serving it to them is just ridiculous. Reservations had been made days prior. I would be embarrassed as a restaurant owner. Not to mention having a rude waitress. The manager did what he could and I appreciate that but I will not be back. Mi Plactia shouldn’t be associated with Mexico Classico because Mexico Classico would never do this in their restaurant. I am embarrassed for my friends who had never been here or to...
Read moreAte here on 12/3/23. First off chips came out warm and delicious, salsa was very garlic forward which set it apart from common restaurant salsa. Guacamole was probably the freshest tasting I have had in my 10 years in Rockford. Margaritas were absolutely delicious and well balanced. My wife loved the shredded chicken sopes. The shredded chicken was the star of my plate as well. Great flavor tender and plentiful. The ground beef was pretty common flavoring and texture as most Mexican restaurants. I had the three pick your own combo and got two tosdadas and a taco. Beans and rice were good as well. Price point was your average for Mexican food. For a family of 4 we spent $80 which included 2 Margaritas. The service was good it seemed being a Sunday they were a little short staffed but still very efficient. The space was a little small but wouldn't feel crowded if it was full. Overall very good experience will definitely be...
