Read moreFirst off let me start by saying I have been coming to this place for years. I no longer live in the area but when I am in the area this is a must stop for me. Today I drove a friend from west Sacramento to have breakfast here. Everyone I bring comes back time and tome again without me.
I am a chef and this kitchen is seasoned with love. So many of the items are house made and you can taste the difference. There are so many items on this large menu that are my favorites and i will only mention a few.
You must try the chicken fried steak and eggs. Most places in California think a chicken fried steak is something that comes out of the freezer and you throw it in the deep fryer. Im not sure but it feels like they just pounded that meat just before service. Dont forget to order the massive biscuit to go with your steak. Put some house made jam or marmalade on it.
I hate when a restaurant serves you a shot glass size of tea. The ice tea and soda glasses here are huge. I dont think ive ever seen a coffee or tea glass go empty very long.
If you have a sweet tooth for breakfast then order the cinnamon roll. The strawberry waffle is not only delicious but its beautiful to the eye as it is served.
If you visit for lunch try their hamburger. House made buns and the house made pepper jack cheese.
If you are lucky enough to visit on a day they do their breaded pork chops then forget everything I said above and order that.
Casey is our server today and she is spot on. Angelica is killing it with the coffee and tea service.
It is great to see Tiffany back. She use to be my favorite server back in the day.
Also while you are visiting, make a visit to the restroom. The restrooms are decorated very cute. In my opinion. When a restaurant takes that much care in the presentation of the restroom, then they also take care of how the kitchen and back of the house is.
I guess I will stop there. So many great things to say about this place. So many great memories of friends sitting down to enjoy an...
Read moreI was told by my GF this was the "best restaurant" in Rocklin. So, we checked it out for lunch on a Sun. It was crowded, as it took about 25-minutes to get seated. Service was decent (left a 21% tip), food was just OK.
Our waitress was fairly attentive, although when my GF asked for additional slices of tomato for her burger, it took about 10-minutes. But this was the only untimely service provided. We got the bill in a timely manner. I think the service was better than the food.
She ordered a cheeseburger (nothing fancy) but it came very dry (condiments were scarce but she ordered extra mayo - which she got with the meal - I guess she knew it would be dry?). She also got onion rings (only 5-6 of them/small rings but they were pretty good - I tried one/smallest). She said her burger was "OK" but that her onion rings were "excellent". Wished there were more (I was a bit disappointed for her about this).
I got the "egg-scramble" (which is a "Joe's Special" in disguise here). While it was tasty, I got half of the food of a usual Joes Special. It was a small serving (for $13??). It came with potatoes, which I declined. It also came with a biscuit, which had the consistency of "cake" but it was delicious. It was also a square, instead of round. Which, while odd, was acceptable. Not the best biscuit I've ever had, but certainly not the worst. My preference would have been more of a biscuit texture and not cake. I would have enjoyed it more.
This place has good service and acceptable quality food. Having seen the Yelp reviews, there are many folks that have "fawned" over how good the qualify of the food tastes? I just didn't see/feel/experience this. While I gave 4 out of 5 stars, the service had much more impact on my rating. I rate the food alone, just a 3 and the service a 4 (out of 5). I've had better quality/tasting food at Dennys/CoCos/Perkos/other diners. I don't know if I...
