I need to get this review in before I forget! The Fresh Baguette is behind Taipei Café in Rockville, Maryland. My wife noticed, behind the restaurant, between two buildings was a very unique little French bakery called Fresh Baguette! She said, “I want to check out the bakery before we go into the restaurant”. So, we checked it out. I hate passing up a good bakery. Nothing smells as good as fresh baked bread and pastries. Fresh Baguette is not a huge bakery, it’s kind of like a café bakery and has some seating in the back and outside, which is great for to enjoy something on your way to work or start your day. There’s more than just baguettes. There are choices of pastries, sweet treats, sandwiches, breads, coffee. Etc! They don’t have a To-Go menu, but you can find them online. I feel bad because I forget the guy’s name that helped us out. And I normally write it down, but we were in a rush to eat and come back to check out the bakery. The restaurant was literally right up the hill. (But anyway, thank YOU 🙏 to the guy that helped us! He was awesome!) And I wanted to give them a great review and do some photos and videos. So after we ate, we ran back down to Fresh Baguette. I couldn’t really give any review on anything until we tried them. So, on the 45 minute drive home, we tried out their crunchy chocolate cereal bites that have about 15 or so pieces. They were great, chocolaty and crunchy and would go great with some coffee. So when we got home, I made a little showcase video and tried a few pastries. We got some regular croissants, chocolate croissants that are more rolled than the traditional triangle croissant shape. We got nutty sourdough bread, which I love making egg sandwiches, avocado toast with egg on top and grilled cheese. We also got a few pastries, an eclair(a French classic but chocolate), a large chocolate chip cookie and a white truffle cake with a cherry filling, (it was finished in two bites, but oh so good!) It tasted like a little cherry truffle pie. Yes, I had to pull out some homemade whipped cream… And boy did that take it over the top! And some other goodies I’m sure will be great with my nitro Coldbrew, which I will try tomorrow. The croissants were perfectly puffed perfectly shaped as if crafted by an architect. Check out the photos! So tomorrow, I am going to try a few pastries and some of the sourdough bread………. … OK! Yes, It’s tomorrow and I will tell you, it was not disappointing. I made a scrambled egg, with smoked cheddar, croissant-wich with a chipotle aïoli. Yes, my wife loved it, anything crunchy she loves! It had a Perfect crunch and flaky factor! Rich and buttery tender, on the inside, light, soft and chewy. OMG what a delicious sandwich! If you bring them home heat them up! 350° for about five minutes is all you need. They will taste fresh baked! And if you’re at the bakery they will warm them up for you… just ask. They are always best warmed up. But if you happen to take them home make sure you Heat them up for about 5 minutes. Not too long! The croissants are perfect on their own, with some jam or jelly or make an egg sandwich. Either way, you will love them. The chocolate croissants hints of chocolate and buttery Rich. Just enough flakiness and these definitely go great with a cup of coffee. There isn’t a whole lot of chocolate in there, so don’t expect them to be filled. The Sourdough bread, crunchy chewy and next level if you toast it. I think toasting takes it to the next level, especially for an egg sandwich, avocado toast, or just some simple butter and jam. Are they worth it? That depends on you! Do you love fresh baked goods, pastry and bread? Then this is your place! They do have a good choice of sandwiches, and other things that we didn’t try out. I hope you enjoyed this review. Check them out whenever you’re in Rockville. They are hidden down a little driveway behind Taipei Café. And if you do stop by because of this review and can remember to tell them, Jack Julius from Google reviews sent you. 👍#frenchbakery...
Read moreI've been here several times and had passable experiences with food quality. The only reason I keep coming here is it's the best French bakery within walking distance, which honestly isn't saying much. This time around, I ordered 3 cannales and a traditional sandwich for pickup.
When I first walked in, an elderly lady was standing in front of the sink behind the counter and dabbing drips of water with her gloved finger from the faucet to the icing on a pastry. I assume it had been sitting out for a while, and she was trying to 'refresh' the look of the icing. Kinda gross, but I had already ordered and paid for my food online, so whatever, I'll just pick up my food.
I think she was hard of hearing because I called to her several times from the register, and had to stand directly behind her and yell "Excuse me ma'am!" to get her attention. She was very nice, and I picked up my food.
Once I arrived home, I started in on the food. The cannales looked fine on the outside (dark brown and crispy) but were basically raw dough inside. I know it's supposed to be crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, but this was straight up watery dough that had congealed at the bottom of the cannale interior. I wish I had thought to take a picture.
The sandwich was mostly baguette and lettuce. There were very few pieces of cheese, very few suuuper thin slices of salami (not the thick slices depicted in their pictures), and very few pickles.
I know times are hard right now so eateries will be cutting corners, but I don't think I'll be back. I witnessed some unhygenic activity, and I paid $18 plus tip for mushy pastries and a stale,...
Read moreReally slow and inconsiderate service. I walked in to order this morning to place an order. I had one person ahead of me and the server took my order and said I had to wait for other orders to finish before giving my sandwich. I asked if I could have a fresh and warm baguette and she said that they don’t have warm baguettes. She mentioned that I had to get the exposed baguette that were sitting in a basket. I asked her if I could have one from the back since they have a bake shop visible through the glass. She said she couldn’t because they were dedicated to other places and not for the general customers.
I looked for the managers but the two managers on duty were taking pictures of desserts out in the front of the store. The two managers were more concerned about the pictures that they were preparing for a posting.
I waited 15 minutes and for 4 other orders for my Parisian sandwich and the receptionist waited for all orders before giving me my order. One manager came inside and asked her if she needed help, but offered none and went back outside.
Desserts are good but the service is terrible!
On top of this, while we were eating, the manager was outside talking loudly on the phone and on her laptop with someone about the pictures she had taken. No consideration for other customers!! I will never come back here again and advise others to know that they will not be treated with respect as a customer. Customers are supposed...
