I cannot begin to describe how LIFE CHANGING my visit here has been. It all started when I met Julie, my server. It was my first time at Kusshi and she provided wonderful customer service. Little did I know how far her customer service would go. On my way out, I almost got run over by a car, but Julie pushed me out of the way and took the hit. I was worried about how she would manage the hospital bills. I offered to help her pay for them as thanks for her sacrifice. Instead, SHE helped ME learn my way around insurance, budgeting, and having a healthy lifestyle. She mentored me and helped me become the person I am today.
She was more than just a friend, she was family. As such, I invited her to my wedding as my maid of honor. Right before the ceremony, disaster struck. The marriage officiant had a heart attack. Julie swept into action and pulled out a defibrillator from her car because she always comes prepared. She saved a life that day. Since the officiant had fallen on their head, they still had to go to the hospital. The wedding was over- or so I thought. Julie, who had always been there for me, obtained ordination in record time, and officiated my wedding. I owe her everything.
In all seriousness, I don’t eat sushi often. The only sushi I get is from grocery stores, so I’m not well-versed in sushi. Most of the things on the menu, I had never tried before. I asked Julie for help deciding. I told her I liked salmon, but wasn’t too picky. She recommended Ovi, a specialty roll. She really hit the mark, since I honestly would come back for it, despite the fact that I’m broke. I wanted to try something new in order to expand my tastes, but I didn’t want to waste money on something I might not like. I looked over the A La Carte menu with Julie. She accurately described each item. I liked the salmon, fatty salmon, eel, yellowtail, smelt roe, and flying fish roe. I wouldn’t have found new things to like if she hadn’t recommended them, so I appreciate that. Personally, I don’t like the taste of tuna even though the texture is good (I still chose to get tuna nigiri just because it’s a classic though). That said, I got the spicy tuna avocado ball of my own accord. I didn’t realize it was tuna and I didn’t realize it didn’t have rice [that’s on me, I read it wrong and just ordered it]. However, I actually ended up liking the taste a lot. That said, I don’t think I could eat that much meat without balancing it out with rice, but I would recommend it if you can. I’ve been eating more sushi since my visit and I think that the quality of the fish here is better than most places.
[Ovi came with more rolls, I just ate some...
Read moreI’m writing this on behalf of my sister, who was mistreated during her visit here and was pressured into deleting her original review which is completely unacceptable.
She came in on Tuesday for the Love Island watch party and was immediately disrespected. As soon as she sat at the bar, a bartender asked for her ID, which is fine, but after she gave it and clearly placed her order, he took over 10 minutes to get her drink and this was after she already told him what she wanted. Yes, it was busy, but that doesn’t excuse blatant disregard.
What’s worse is that she tried to flag down that same bartender again, and he just stared at her blankly, not doing anything, and then looked away without helping. She then flagged down a different bartender, who also stared at her, then looked at the first bartender and started laughing and there was absolutely nothing funny about the situation. That’s blatant rudeness, and it felt personal.
My sister is one of the kindest and most respectful people, and she did not deserve to be ignored and laughed at by staff who are supposed to provide service. It’s disgusting how she was treated, and even more disgusting that she was coerced into deleting her review instead of being offered a real apology or accountability from the bartenders only management it seems like they condone this behavior.
To top it off, the food is mid, and it’s way too loud in there for a proper watch party experience anyway. She invited me to go with her today, but after how she was treated, I won’t be stepping foot in that...
Read moreI absolutely love the Rockville Town Center Kusshi. The food is amazing but I’ve had the absolute BEST service from Julia (more than once) and Ari. Honestly, their attention to detail and amazing service is what keeps me coming back. Their food is wonderful too tho! I’ve done dine in and take out and it’s been fantastic every time.
Update: I’m adding more because I am a very fussy eater (I have extremely high standards re: quality, restaurant cleanliness/hygiene and freshness) and Kusshi has been consistent every time (my last review was after several visits). I visited again on July 31st and had the most amazing lunch and service (thank you Michael!). They have incredible lunch specials. I highly recommend the bento box (larger than I’ve ever seen at the dozens of sushi restaurants I’ve been to). We’ve also enjoyed the shrimp shu mai, miso soup, salmon and avocado maki rolls, seared fatty salmon belly, miso sea bass, salmon teriyaki and shrimp teriyaki. Every staff member that we’ve interacted with has been very helpful and accommodating but I’ve only mentioned those who directly served us. Probably no more updates though, unless I can remember to take photos at some...
