I've been getting their Birria Quesotacos since they opened in the summer of 2020, and while 2 years ago this place earned my love and loyalty, the quality of the food has seen a SIGNIFICANT decline while prices have continued to go up.
Explanation: The Birria quesotacos combo (3 tacos and a small consome) was $15 when I first started going. Pricy, but not more than most boujee taco places. And the quality at the time made it worth it: Amazing meat paired with wonderfully thick tortillas and plenty of cilantro, onion, and cheese. This made Little Miner my go-to birria spot in MoCo, and one I would visit at least once a month.
Fast forward to today, the combo is now $17 and yet over time the quality of the food got worse and worse. First it was the tortillas being swapped out for smaller and thinner ones, months later it was a decrease is the amount of cheese per taco, then the fresh cilantro became hard to find in each taco. During my most recent visit in Jan 2023 the consome bowl, which once was full of chopped cilantro and onion and little extra bits of meat, was now nothing but a strained, thin broth. Each time I've gone there's been a crazy fluctuation in how much meat each taco held, as well. Some days it was great, some days it was more tortilla than anything. While the meat has stayed consistently flavorful, the overall quality of what you get for $17 went way downhill.
I believe that this might be due to high staff churn, as I always seem to see some new, teenage staff member behind the counter. They cannot seem to keep the same consistent quality that whoever was cooking 2 years ago provided. Maybe it's a management cost-cutting issue, maybe it's that they didn't pay their old cooks enough to retain them, or maybe it's something completely different. I don't know, but it's sad to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām giving 3 stars because the food was actually really good. Visiting the area my family and I ordered Little Miners through DoorDash which turned into a complete disaster. The DoorDash driver arrived to the restaurant to pick up the order and was told by an employee that the order was cancelled and that they were not accepting orders. The Dasher called us to let us know what she had been told, so we called the restaurant directly to gain clarification as we can see the current status of our ordered showed āwaiting for dasher to pick upā. Meaning the restaurant already accepted the order and took our money. When we finally got an associate on the phone the young woman informs us that she have our order to the driver already for pickup. At this point we take our other cell phone and get the DoorDash driver on the phone so that we can talk to both of them in real time, as we knew she did not have the order in her possession. After several minutes of back and forth the employee realized she was caught in her lie. She begged us to cancel the order, but since it was in the āwaiting for dasher pickupā step it would not allow us to cancel on our end. She then spoke with management and they ended up making the order. Iām glad management had the decency to make things right in the end. Customer service refresh training should be revisited for the young lady. However, be mindful if you are ordering through DoorDash the restaurant may not be accepting orders even when the restaurant is showing online. If we are ever in the Bethesda area again, we will physically go in to the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOk so I ordered $90+ worth of stuff.. 20 tacos and a xl street corn. It was ok. Price wise it's a bit high (that's with a coupon from Uber eats.. it would have been $30 more.) I was missing one mushroom taco from the order which were for my vegetarian daughter. The tacos tasted pretty good although they were inconsistent. Some were nice and stayed together others were broken apart. Some stuffed some almost empty. Quesotacos didn't have much cheese at all which is prob why they were falling apart. The grilled chicken tacos were jalapeno tacos with a garnish of chicken. I did like the birria tacos minus the broth and surprisingly the Americano quesotacos I got for my son were really good. Pretty sure they just threw on whatever toppings they wanted on all the tacos, they looked nothing like the pictures . The birria broth wasn't the best, tasted like oily dish soap tbh not much flavor there. The prices are extremely high here I paid $16 for a not so xl cup of canned corn. My order was sloppily made and idk .. I expected quality and portion size to be much better considering the price. Prob won't come back tbh. Also apparently you have to pay for the hot sauce or salsa? It wasn't included. When I asked there was a fee. I wanted to love this place, had been wanting to try it for years. I spent a lot of money just to be pretty disappointed. If you do eat here maybe make a smaller order perhaps it would be made better?... And pls don't spend $16 on a not so xl cup...
