This place is horrible! I just moved here and had a taste for Chinese so I found Peking Grill. The staff is very rude and hateful. The food is either over cooked or under cooked in old grease and very tough and rubbery.
I walked in and smiled at the lady who was working the counter. She returned an almost hateful, blank stare and mumbled something. I ordered the Pu Pu platter for 2 and pork lomein. She argued about the platter and I repeated my order. She asked if I wanted 1 or 2 Pu Pu platters and I said 1. She told me I said 2. Then she rolled her eyes, shook her head and gave me a smirk. I showed her that the menu read "Pu Pu Platter for 2" and that is what I wanted. Again she smirked and rang it up.
I will comment on the food items one by one. The lo mein was under cooked and felt like I was chewing on a bunch of rubber bands. The fried chicken had the most odd flavor I have ever tasted - it may have been the old grease. The fried shrimp was dry, tough and chewy. The BBQ spare ribs were burnt to the point that only a thin skin of tough leather was left on the bone. The crab wontons were tough and rubbery as well with very little filling. The shrimp toast had a crispy, greasy crust, but the middle was a soggy, doughy mess. The beef cho cho had the worst unpalatable flavor that competed with the awful fried chicken.
The only thing that was decent and edible was the spring roll. It was about the same as every other Chinese place serves. Basically, I paid $16.00 for a spring roll and a couple of fortune cookies.
If you're in the area and are craving Chinese, drive 20 minutes to Roanoke or Moneta. Avoid this place...
Read moreSmall town Chinese place with good food at a good price. Not fine dinning by any stretch but well made and not stingy with the portions. They have made the same dishes for over a decade. Take out or eat in, the service is always fast if not always fluent in English. I think I have had about everything on the menu and all of it was tasty. They do take-out the old fashioned way in containers with the option of small or large. The sweet tea is made with jasmine and is fantastic. If you need something a bit hot or want a little more sauce...just ask. They do a booming take-out business with folks often driving a good distance to take home dinner. Worth a stop.
Some reviews complain about the staff. Don't pay attention to that. The couple that runs the place put in 12 hour days seven days a week and work hard to provide a really tasty meal at a price that keeps you happy. At times they are tired, they are hustling, the phone is ringing and they have a line at the counter. You might have to refill your own water are grab that other napkin yourself....
Read moreUnfortunately not many other choices in Franklin County for Chinese food. If there were, this place would be closed. I went with my wife and daughter on a Thursday night, not overly busy. Ordered within 5 minutes of entering. They brought my wife and daughters meal and brought me nothing 30 minutes later. I waited 10 minutes and went to the counter. The waitress comes out of the back and drops it on my table. No apologies, not a word. I said you can take that off my ticket and take it back, my family has finished eating. She took it and stomped away rudely. No offer for a discount, no apology,, nothing. Do not expect good service! Food is simply okay. (I have eaten here before). My...
