I had one of the worst experiences of my life last night at this place. I stopped by to buy a six-pack at the store in Bruno's on my way home. I was listening to a friend on the phone and walked straight to the back to browse. The employee at the front of the store started yelling at me to get off the phone. I was confused and wasn't even sure he was talking to me. He ran back and shoved a ratty cardboard sign in my face and started telling me to "get out of his store" (plus several harsh expletives. I said, "what is going on? I'm not checking out, I'm not even talking." THE SIGN SAYS NO CELL PHONES! And he began screaming at me. I left and called the police, then he came out to the sidewalk and started calling me anti-gay slurs and pushing up against me.
The police were of little help, but I am horrified by my experience here. I will never go back and am actually afraid to walk by the place now. I love this neighborhood and am beside myself that I've been terrorized by a store...
Read morewent Bruno's Lounge last night as I do every few weeks like any loyal and law-abiding customer and was falsely accused by a visibly impaired man of trying to steal bottles then physically threatened. After I was so harshly kicked out, I was told that he was the owner. I don't know what to believe because I had no indication that he is anything more than an angry and intoxicated fellow customer on a self-righteous power trip. Either way, one of the most offensive things you can ever do to someone is to falsely attack a someone's moral character using irrational logic, and then on that basis, tell them that they are going to get slapped and get their skull cracked. I would have given 3 stars to the place because of their prices and selection but this highly offensive experience completely ruins my view of this establishment. I would come back to reason with him and make peace for the misunderstanding but his threats of violence if I ever returned gives me no...
Read moreBest and oldest neighborhood Bar in Roger's Park. One of it's unique attributes is that it's one of the few remaining Bar / Package Goods locations where you can sit and have a beer, chat with Matt or Tim and then grab a sixer and a half gallon of milk to go. Family owned and operated by the Roti's it's been a Roger's park staple for over 65 years. RIght across the street for Loyola on Sheridan Rd. and steps from the Loyola L stop it's all about location. You'll notice that the building itself doesnt look much like the rest around it, but when I was a kid and Bruno was running the place, the whole block looked exactly like that building, From the L station down to Theil's Pharmacy on the corner of Albion. Inside the recent remodel makes the bar THE place to be on Friday night, or wednesday afternoon too. The Bathrooms look nicer than those at Holiday inn down the street. You shoulda seen em before. ...
