I was already a fan of the Salt on North Ave, and now I'm a fan of this one as well! The burger is a smash burger, super flavorful, with crispy edges! I got mine with everything, along with an order of Salt fries. My husband came with, and he got the double with Fuego onion rings. When they say Fuego, they mean it! The ghost pepper seasoning they use was really tasty, but had my lips burning for a little bit. The salt fries.... they come with cheese, salt sauce, grilled onions, and peppers & it was a great combination for their already really good shoestring fries. The burgers are thin, so while I traditionally order the single burgers at most places, I would go double here.
Orders are taken on a kiosk in the front, while cooks smash fresh balls of beef & grill the burgers in front of you. The aromatic smell of onions grilling while you wait is maddening, especially if you come in hungry, but worth the wait nonetheless. the prices are affordable with a double costing about $8. I'd much rather spend the couple of extra dollars here and savor those crispy burger edges than to drop $5 on a sad fast food burger. This location is right off of the Loyola Red Line, and super accessible for Loyola students. Parking, not so much. If you're lucky you might snag some street parking on Sheridan, but a lot of the side streets in the area are...
Read moreThe burger itself was delicious. It was messy and reminiscent of an In-and-Out Burger which you don’t often see in the midwest. The fries were also freshly made and the perfect mix of crunch vs. softness. My most major complaint is one that is mostly my own fault, that the ghost pepper fries were way too spicy to be enjoyed. I am a man who enjoys spice, but I do have to say this was excessive in spice so if you are a spice lover be careful, this is one of those types of spice thats more about pain than it is about flavor. The level of heat took away from the flavor of the fries and did not contribute much in terms of flavor palette and honestly it even impacted the flavor of the burger, because the burn lingered for so long. That being said I will be trying the restaurant again and getting the standard fries.
Sidenote: I also got the lemonade, and while it is delicious and fresh, for the amount you get it is vastly overpriced. For the price of one lemonade you could buy yourself a pound of sugar and 20 lemons and make 30 lemonades at home that will be just as good. I know that when you go to a restaurant you are not supposed to think about what you could do yourself at home, but with this particular drink I would recommend avoiding buying it unless you are dying for a lemonade in that moment, and instead stick to a soft...
