We had never been to Rick’s bakery although we’ve talked about it numerous times, so last evening about 5:30 pm we decided to stop and get some bread and maybe a few doughnuts. When we walked in, there was no employee visible and it stayed that way for several minutes. I went to use the restroom while my wife waited. When I got to the restroom there were signs on both doors saying they were out of order. By this time an employee had come out from the back and seemed chagrined when we asked about the restroom but said we could use the men’s as the plumber had just left. My wife ordered the bread after looking at the sandwich menu because the employee helping her could not tell her what breads they carried. We also ordered four doughnuts. The employee went back to box the doughnuts after we paid and said someone was slicing the two loaves of bread. After five minutes or so , I went to the car with the doughnuts and my wife waited for the bread . She waited more than 15 minutes for the bread and there were literally two other customers in the store. When we got home and opened the box of doughnuts there was no waxed paper in the box at all, and the very small amount of chocolate frosting on two of the doughnuts was now on the box and not on the doughnuts, so we tried the apple fritter instead. It was okay, but I’d put it on par with Walmart bakery doughnuts , nothing to rave about. This morning we opened one of the bread loaves to make toast. There were six pieces that I had to throw away because they had collapsed and crumbled and it was apparent then why slicing it took so long, I suspect the employee slicing the bread was probably in the back room trying to put those slices in the bag in such a way that it wouldn’t be obvious that the loaf was collapsing . The rest of that loaf has a large bubble about an inch below the crust and that may have lead to the problem. We understand that when baking bread, that sometimes happens, however, the employee should have sliced another loaf for us instead of trying to disguise the problem. We haven’t opened the other loaf yet, so we’ll withhold opinion on that one. In short , we were both very disappointed and probably will...
Read moreMy wife and I visited the greater Fayetteville area this past weekend to attend a Razorbacks home game and stayed overnight near this Rick's location.. We opted to drop in for a few sweet treats and are absolutely pleased with our decision..
We've visited another Rick's location on North College Ave a few times before but this is our first visit to this location, which was once a Dixie Cafe..
Let me just say that Rick's offers a very wide selection of treats.. If you hanker for cakes, cookies, donuts, cupcakes, brownies, cinnamon rolls, other pastries, or their very famous petit fours, then Rick's is your spot..
On this visit my bride enjoyed a maple iced long john donut and I enjoyed the same, but filled with whipped cream.. More on that in a moment.. We also selected four petit fours to carry home to central Oklahoma to enjoy with coffee..
I have been a fan of white cream filled donuts for as long as I can remember.. They are widely available in my hometown in SW Ohio, but they're not readily available in central Oklahoma.. Trying Rick's variant was a first for me and I'm very pleased with my choice..
Rick's will fill their long john donuts on request with their whipped cream being one of about 7-8 options.. The whipped cream isn't overly sweet or rich, which made for a perfect pairing with the maple iced donut.. They filled from both ends, too, which allowed for whipped cream being present in nearly every bite, with only a small portion of the middle of the donut lacking that extra decadence..
The donut itself was delightfully fresh, the maple icing also not overly sweet but having a great maple flavor.. My wife, who is originally from the Fayetteville area and a long-time Rick's customer, remarked that she had forgotten just how good Rick's donuts were..
At the end of the day, this visit to this Rick's location cemented our decision to make Rick's a "must visit" for any of our future road trips to NWA and the greater Fayetteville area.. This location is beautifully decorated, is warm and inviting, and offers sufficient seating should one wish to enjoy their purchases on location..
Thanks for the wonderful experience.. We'll see you the next time...
Read moreI am posting this at both locations for visibilities sake - I hope no one has to experience what we did. My daughter used Ricks Bakery for her wedding this past weekend 10/14/22. I would absolutely never recommend this bakery for a wedding. The entire process, the wedding cake coordinator was extremely hard to get ahold of. We had to chase the bakery to pay for our cake for a week straight - called at least five times and emailed multiple times (all while dealing with a family death). When we finally got ahold of her to pay, she said “sorry for the phone tag”, however phone tag typically means that there’s communication from both sides, when there was not. The day of was an absolute disaster. Our window was from 2-4pm, there was no call or communication to let us know the delivery would be late and my daughter was getting married at 4:30. My daughter spent the first part of her day stressed out and did not get to enjoy her day because she had to constantly coordinate to make sure we got this cake. When she texted Lyndsey at 4:02, all Lyndsey said was “I have the window as 2-4pm” at 4:22. We had someone waiting until the last minute to receive and it still wasn’t there. No apologies were given, no communication except for when we reached out. They put our cake in the fridge after expressing multiple times before the wedding (weeks before) and the day of not to put it in the fridge. Her friends ended up moving the cake and putting flowers on it during the reception. This was an absolute disaster, and I’m so dissatisfied with our experience. Please avoid if you do not want to have unnecessary stress on your wedding day - this really clouded a large portion of what was supposed to be a joyous day. I don’t believe we are the only ones experiencing this either, as other vendors told us they were having...
