When Colton's first opened it was fantastic. But it seems like the whole place is dropping in quality as a whole. the last few times I have been in there, one of the first things you get is the peanuts to munch on before a meal, have been stale. chewy and not crunchy. tonight was no exception. in fact the whole presentation was off. the ketchup on the table was almost empty and there was a half filled can of shells and a hand full of peanuts in the other, which were stale. I ordered the bacon cheese burger and asked for everything on it. everything is apparently just tomato and lettuce. no pickle and no onion. the bun was over toasted and the meat, that i ordered medium was well done. the burger on a whole was dry. the fries were good. the tea tasted like it was made the night before. I would like to say this was a one time experience for me but each time i have been there it has seemed to progress further down a spiraling path. used to the owner/manager would come out and ask you how your meal was. I no longer see this. the waitress is horrible about refills anymore. tonight the place was about empty. (something else i have noticed, i drive by and it is not as packed as it once was) i got one glass of tea. the waitress asked if i wanted another, after my meal was over and i was done. she actually asked if i wanted one to go. i actually wanted a refill about halfway through my burger. by that time i was sucking on the ice cubes and was ready to go. but back to before, when i first went to Colton's after they opened, the steaks were fantastic, burgers too. now they lack flavor and the meat tastes like its off of some old 5 year old or not aged properly. the flavor is lacking. the steaks used to be so robust in flavor and looked like a proper cut of meat. the burgers were juicy and had some weight to them when you picked them up. it is as if the owner/management no longer cares about the product they are serving or the care the servers are giving to their customers and it is showing. the lack of attendance is proof. unless Colton's changes things around and starts taking pride in their business, I will have to take mine elsewhere. I can get a burger at Huddle House that out does theirs compared to what i had today. I am giving 3 stars. really it should be 2.5. because i feel this establishment is less than 50% at this point but i would like to believe it has the potential to bounce back and become what it once was. I do not know if you Coltons reads their reviews or not but if they do i hope they take mine to heart. Please bring back the Colton's that once was. I am not a fan of Matt's. I was a huge fan of Colton's. I would still like to be. Take pride in your place. teach your people to take pride in their work. When i walk into any restaurant, i am prepared to give a solid 10 dollar tip. it is rare that i give less than five. tonight i left less than 3 because it was the change left out of what i had on me. I do not tip the server based on the food but on the service. to me the service was lost on the table not being properly prepared (all things filled up/peanuts refreshed and not stale) and the over all service. i was not checked on after my first bite (also a good time to refill my glass) i was not checked on prior to finishing my meal (another good time to fill my glass and also ask if desert is wanted and drop the check off if not wanted) i was thanked for coming in at least. good luck and hope that things improve and i may try you again, but it...
Read moreEdit: We've come back here again and had yet another nice server. My Ribeye was fairly tough though cooked to a perfect medium rare, and it wasnt over seasoned which was nice. Unfortunately there was a hair in my food under the halfway portion of my steak. I'm now pregnant, so I get grossed out a lot more easily now. I had eaten 3/4ths of my steak and all my sides before finding it, so I was mostly done anyway. Just was another this place has let us down, which sucks because service has always been good. I'd suggest to anyone else to TRY Longhorn first before coming here for steak and burgers now. If it was a one-time mess up instead of a genuinely medicore quality ribeye for fairly typical ribeye pricing, I'd not mind, but the hair in my food just sealed the deal with my experience.
Original Post: So I've come here a couple times now since I moved back to Missouri just to have either a very eh experience or slightly disappointing. Our servers have always been lovely to add, but the food simply has been middle of the road for whoever I bring or messed up. Ordered a mushroom Swiss burger and they put a slice of yellow American cheese on it. Scraped it off and put a cold slice of Swiss ontop when I mentioned it. Then I bit into the burger- the mushrooms were actually delicious by the way and my burger was very underdone. If I was pregnant I would've had to send it back and I eat my steaks medium rare to rare. Ground beef when undercooked has a higher chance of spreading bacteria due to it being all ground together which is why it's marked as unsafe for immune compromised or pregnant individuals. Our server Garret was very good and seemed to be going through it so I ate as much as I could as my friend had her burger cooked perfectly fine, and didn't want to wait a second time for my food. I also had a perfectly cooked burger in front of my friend to compare it to when I thought maybe- just maybe my 8 years of food service experience have failed me.
TLDR: Garrett is nice, food was not cooked properly, and I doubt we will...
Read moreThis was our first time at Colton’s Steak House & Grill. My husband and I weren’t impressed with the food at all. We’re from Wisconsin where Texas Roadhouse is popular and it seemed like Colton’s was trying to mimic Texas Roadhouse. From the peanuts, rolls, and other menu items there were so many similarities. I however, prefer Texas Roadhouse’s food.
We went to dinner tonight, which is a Friday night. We were seated right away. We were supplied with a half bucket of shelled, salted, peanuts. Our waitress came over to our table right away to get our drink order and she brought them back right away. She asked if we would like an appetizer, we declined and said that we were ready to order. I asked our waitress if they could substitute the chicken with beef or pork on the chipotle chicken nachos, I am allergic to chicken. The waitress informed me that they could not.
My husband ordered the sirloin & ribs combo with loaded smashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. He said that the fully loaded mashed potatoes were good. The macaroni and cheese was baked, had just the right crisp on the cheese, and had good flavor. He said that the sirloin was very small and didn’t have any flavor. He said it didn’t have any seasoning at all, not even salt and pepper. He also said that the ribs, although they had good smoky flavor, had too much fat and gristle on them.
I ordered the cheese fries appetizer. There was a good portion of fries that had bacon, cheese, and chives on them. They were served with ranch dressing. The fries were really salty, but they were cooked perfectly, crunchy and soft. They didn’t put much bacon, cheese, and chives on the fries at all though. There should be more toppings on the fries. The menu stated that the cheese fries came with spicy ranch dressing. There was a ranch wasn’t spicy at all.
The food was okay but we probably wouldn’t eat there again. It may have been an off night for the kitchen crew, but we were...
