Personal Food Recs: Chicken & Shrimp Teriyaki, Seaweed Salad, Fried Dumplings, Chicken Poke Bowl with Classic Sauce, Chicken Poke Bowl with Teriyaki Sauce, Chicken & Shrimp Bento, Chicken Bento, Salmon Bento
Poke bowls are to die for! Seriously, it's amazing being able to get quality and quantity for such low prices (around $10-$12 per bowl). I fell in love with poke bowls when I was in Portland, and I was super pleased when I found out Hiro Bento was coming to Rolla.
The food is huge too! Poke bowls come with the meat in the sauce that you order (I personally love chicken teriyaki, and I add on shrimp teriyaki), as well as a heaping helping of rice, crab meat, lettuce, seaweed salad, avocado, and carrot. It's a lot of food for $10. Adding more meat costs more, of course, as does adding extra sauce, but it's definitely worth it.
I'll admit my favorite thing to order, though, is just the Chicken & Shrimp Teriyaki for $8.75. I like to order it with fried rice, and sometimes I add on even more delicious chicken or shrimp (or salmon or beef), and it lasts me two straight days, reheats amazingly, and makes me want to order Hiro for every meal.
I also recommend the fried dumplings. They come in the bento boxes in pairs of 2, or you can order them for 6 pcs at $4.35. They're tasty, the sauce is tasty, and if you somehow manage to still have room after the poke bowl, the bento box, or the teriyaki entree, then...
Read moreMy husband has always dreamed of visiting Japan, Due to travel cost etc I always try to bring as much as it to hom as possible, so whenever I found specific "street food" items etc offered here, I immediately ordered. Also got a mango tea with Boba? Gel like balls that explode in your mouth.. At first everything was absolutely fantastic, he was thoroughly enjoying the food, however over time all of the food began to taste like sesame oil, and all tasted the same. This is the first time EVER eating this cuisine..and if this is how the rest of the menu is, I simply can't recommend the food. Got 1 Chicken Bento (came in a plastic disposable container) Yummy Sauce, and Takoyaki (6 pieces). The drinks, however, are different from anything offered that I've seen and wasn't horrible. Very let down from...
Read moreThis was a bust for my family. We used to live in Seattle, which is like the American mecca of Bento. So my hopes were high. My husband and I ordered salmon bento boxes. There was too much rice, very little veggies, and 3 small slivers of Salmon that had not nearly enough flavor. The dumplings were nice. However, the veggie spring rolls were chewy, a bit undercooked or out too long. My daughter's veggie yakisoba had almost no flavor. My other daughter did enjoy her shrimp bento box, but was lacking veggies, had too much rice, and also had chewy spring rolls. My son's teriyaki chicken had a nice flavor, but was gristly. It just really wasn't what we were hoping for and not worth the...
