I ate here this past Friday around 1:15pm before a flight. We walked in and were greeted and were told to seat ourselves. My family and I took a place in the back. We waited 10 minutes for someone to come, but no one did. Again, we were on a time limit because we had a flight to catch. So I got up to go find someone. An older, bald gentleman waiter 'decided' to help me by telling me that I should have told him that we were back there. I could not fathom why I would have to tell him we were back there when we were told to seat ourselves and someone will come. Even though I was not pleased with the introduction, I decided not to say anything and give him a chance.
When he came to our table, he asked us for drinks which was a good thing he did! We gave him our drink order and then asked him if we could place the food order now because of time constraints. His word for word response, in a joking manner I think, was "Give me a sec to get your drinks in at least". My response was "Ok sorry, but we have a flight to catch in the next hour". I understand drink orders can be backed up and food takes time to cook. When I'm at an airport and worried about time, I like to place food orders quickly and ask for the bill to come in advance of me finishing.
Drinks took awhile to come and when they did, he 'let' us order our food. Again because we did not have unlimited time, I asked after placing the order if he could bring the bill now so we could just eat and go. Instead of "sure, I understand", it was another unnecessary quip about rushing him. Maybe I should have spoken up and said that "We appreciate your service, but we are not joking around when we say we are on a time constraint". But I did not, and that was my mistake.
He brought our food but not the bill, of course. We ate our food, and flagged him down and asked if we could please have a small box and the bill so we can now go. He brought a box, but not the bill.
That took another long period of time while he looked at different things near the bar. We packed up our food and stood up hoping that he would notice that we would like to leave and maybe that would clue him in to bring the bill to pay. Nope. All three of us, wife, son and I, walked up to him and asked for the bill. There was no sorry from him just another silly quip about it being "a slow day" or whatever.
Trying to cash out was another experience with him. I gave him my travel card and instead of inserting the chip he swiped it in a semi-violent manner over and over again six times and then gave it back and said it couldn't read it. I gave him my other card, and instead of inserting the chip, he swiped it in a similar semi-violent manner about three times before it read it and worked. He tells me there is something wrong with your cards and I should get new ones.
I asked why he did not just insert the chip? "I don't like cards they don't make sense with chips. I prefer using cash." Again, this is a place with readers that can tap, read chips, or swipe. Not sure what his problem is there. Anyway, my cards have no problems I on my trip now using them and headed back soon.
Anyway, the food was fine and we like the layout and the place we were able to sit.
We just had a waiter that is probably NOT best suited for service at an airport restaurant. He would be better suited at a place outside the airport where people are not on what could be tight...
Read moreI can’t believe how incredibly disappointed we were with s dining experience in the DET airport Cat Cora’s taproom. Our family didn’t want to eat fast food after traveling all day. So we decided to stop and finish our last dinner as a family wrapping up our vacation.
WHAT a mistake, eat the Chik Fil A, QDoba or Popeyes. Save yourself the $150 dinner that was terrible.
We ordered the Cobb salad, a burger, side of fries and Ploughman platter (meat n cheese board) 2 beers and small glass of wine…$150 before tip 😳
I guess I wouldn’t have thought twice if the food was at least decent. The burger was decent but over cooked, bun was hard as a rock and the fries were undercooked…wiggly potatoes !! Yuck
The salad, was less than fresh. The lettuce was wilted, chicken was good, 1 half of an egg, sprinkles of bacon and tomorrows that were not even ripe…they were green.
The meat n cheese platter was not anything more than salami, prosciutto and capicola that was green. Cheese was so hard, like it had been sitting out and dried out in a refrigerator. The goat cheese was edible, so I ate that with the 3 crostini’s that came with the platter. I wasn’t sure if they were the platter or should be eaten. It was so hard and barely edible. The jam was nothing more than an orange jam out of jar from Miejers/Kroger. For that matter the entire platter was.
For an Iron Chef, Cat Cora I would expect more !! Super disappointed and not only we were not pleased with the quality. We barely made it to the next gate after eating with out having to find the restroom immediately !!! My daughter was in agony with her stomach cramping the entire next flights. $150 literally flew out the window with that dinner !!
Def not a kid friendly dinner either, I asked if they had one and the waitress responded “NO”! Not even providing alternate options or even recommendations of sides. My children are older, not toddlers and eat most food but I should took their recommendation for fast food !! Fast food would have been better than the what...
Read moreCripes, where do I start. I travel often- tonight was my third time here. The last two visits weren’t great but seeing as it was near our gate, I figured third time is a charm. Nope. For reference here, it is a rare day in hell that I’ll leave a bad review for any businesses.
Pros: The kid greeting us was very kind. The onion soup was EXCELLENT!
Cons: Incredibly overpriced, even for an airport. Soup bowl was more like half a bowl. Server was irritated we asked for straws and after the third time finally brought some.
The macaroni was just awful.
The worst part of our experience was our server, honestly. She could not have hated her job more. The entire place was empty and our kids wanted to sit next to the window and watch the planes- she told us no. She was rude as hell (I get along with basically all humans and am super laid back).
Ordered a side salad and she didn’t ask what kind of dressing… this place doesn’t serve ranch (ahem friends this is Michigan 🤣).
Just came out with a dry salad.
We took some food to go and the server “boxed it up for us” right at the table. I’m not sure which had more food, the carryout containers or the tabletop…
If you’re the lady that was serving at this establishment and you were working tonight, June 30th- PLEASE go find your joy… because it is certainly not at Cat Cora’s in DTW. It may not be customer service at all. Find your happy place-...
