YOTEA is one of many up-and-coming boba shops in the San Gabriel Valley. Tucked in a storefront on the first floor of an apartment building on Valley Blvd, YOTEA offers tea, coffee, and, soon, pastries.
I came to their grand opening, April 28th, where they offered a 30% off deal for any drink. I opted for their YO Boba Milk Tea which offers their brown sugar milk tea with three different boba toppings: brown sugar, mini, and honey boba. I got it at 0% sugar, which I am glad I did because the three different boba toppings added sufficient sweetness for me, and no ice. With the 30% discount, my drink was $3.85 when the original price was $5.50.
I think overall, my drink was okay. I feel like you could get better boba drinks in other shops. My drink tasted more creamy than I would have preferred - especially at a 0% sweetness level. I felt like the tea flavor wasn't as pronounced as I would have preferred either. The boba toppings were good though. They had a nice chewiness and flavor which meant that they were soaked inside a solution. It wasn't too soft nor too hard, but just right. One of the things that I didn't really enjoy was the information discrepancy when I ordered my drink. I asked the cashier if my drink would be cold if it the drink had no ice, and the cashier affirmed that it would. However, when I got my drink, it was lukewarm. I had to ask for some ice in my drink to make it cold.
I think, if I had to give it a star rating based on Google's rating system, I would give them a 3.5 star. However, since Google only lets me do whole numbers, I would round my rating closer to 3 (it is okay) than 4 (I like it). I would like it better if the drink had a stronger tea flavor and wasn't too milky, but I did enjoy their boba. Although, I rounded down because of the warm drink even though I tried to clarify with the cashier when I ordered the drink.
I think, if they were to iron out some of their kinks since they are newly opened, I think they could be a good boba shop especially since they didn't charge tax. With other boba spots charging around $7 for a boba, having a sub-$6 drink with toppings is pretty decent. At the current instance though, I think I would prefer other places, but would give YOTEA another chance...

We had high hopes for this place considering the logo was so cute :( They offer a menu with a good range of options to pick from, but we don't recommend getting their fruit teas. Maybe the other items on the menu are better, but we didn't get a chance to try them. The prices are also pretty average though and not too crazy compared to other boba shops. There's only 1 size for each type of drink which makes it pretty easy to order. They also have some pastries in the glass window like croissants and buns.
Longan Green Tea: 6/10 - added lime slices makes it sour and bitter Mango Green Tea: 5/10 - super sour
The workers were friendly and the interior is super spacious. They have seating to do some studying and more casual seating for hanging out. There's also some free stickers available at the pick-up counter! My sister and I were able to find a parking spot on the street, but I think there's also a parking garage.
Good service, but drinks were...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat environment, great drinks, and great coffee. I got a the peach milk tea with boba which the person I bought it for liked a lot. Same s the matcha milk tea with boba. I got the egg coffee one that comes with cookies on top and man ohhhhh man dipping that cookie it that condensed egg milk cream or whatever it is on top is amazingly gooooood. Definitely try it if you are a black coffee type drinker. The place had great air conditioning a large amount of seats and very minimal design. Just a head up look at the menu before you go because they don't have any menus visible from the line...
