I went to Asparagus for my Valentine's Day date the Friday before the 14th to avoid a big crowd. They did have the place nicely decorated for the holiday! Their year-round decor is especially beautiful. Asparagus is a asian-french restaraunt and their nice collection of decor lives up to that. Great atmosphere, the candle lit dinner was great. The food ordered came out at lightning speed! I was shocked, I've never had food come out that fast before! Our server Andrew did a great job, give him a raise!
Now, onto the food itself. Don't be deterred by the prices, the majority of the menu has HUGE serving sizes! I ate my bowl of Pho until I was full and still had enough leftover for another full bowl when I got home! The food is generally priced fairly considering the amount you get, well worth it! The vegetables added to the Pho were perfect and the broth was the best party, VERY flavorful! The only negative thing about Asparagus is surprisingly that meat is not their strong suit. In terms of meat I only tried their chicken and pork so maybe the other meats are better? The chicken in the Pho was very bland, unflavored, and unseasoned. I also tried their Sesame Chicken Stir Fry and the chicken wasn't the best however the vegetables were very yummy! The Pork Meatballs were just ok, nothing to die for. I'd suggest choosing something else. I really loved the Chicken Egg Rolls. I like that they cut them at an angle. The sauce provided really leveled them up. The desserts really stood out! You MUST try their Truffle Chocolate Eggrolls!!! I've never seen this done before and it was sooooooo yummy!!! Also cut in a slant. I should also mention that their plating skills are excellent! My fiancé got the Double Chocolate Cake. It's HUGE and has very rich delicious chocolate. Just a heads up though, it does contain nuts! For drinks I ordered a couple mocktails, the Baby Berry Mule and the Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri. I suggest ordering light ice for the Mule. At the end of the night we were gifted Jasmine Tea in honor of Chinese New Year, how nice!
Overall I highly recommend this restaurant. The best way to spend time here would be by having a romantic dinner date or, even better, a lunch with friends! Due to their large serving sizes you could all order something and share a bit so you could try many things on the menu. The rating could easily be bumped up if they worked on their meats a bit! Don't let this deter you from going, they have plenty of delicious dishes without meat on...
Read moreMy husband made reservations here for my birthday as a surprise to me, he was told one thing over the phone however we experienced something different in person....
He was told there was “a chocolate piece of cake waiting for your wife”, when he called to follow up to make sure everything was set. We later learned that that wasn’t true and that Asparagus does not offer complementary deserts. Thats their prerogative. The concerning part here is that 1) my husband was told (specifically) that there was “a slice of chocolate cake waiting for her” & 0 accommodation was made 2) the nonchalant attitude from the male server that we experienced 3) while still dining - no one asked for anything to be “complementary”, I simply asked was there anything you guys did for birthdays.... Whether that’s sing a song, have a selection of deserts for special occasions, a candle sparkler - anything! 4) The attitude seemingly came off from the server as dismissive. His response to the entire party (of 6) was “We don’t offer anything for birthdays, if Kate gave out a slice of cake for each birthday she’d be giving away hundreds of dollars! That’s a $12 piece of cake!” If Asparagus offers a $12 piece of chocolate cake fitting for a birthday, please bring that out. We would have paid for it. Simple. The tone was just off to be quite frank! We all left with a feeling of confusion and as if we weren’t welcomed. I did not have a delightful time here for my birthday, the moment was ruined. The bigger disappointment was the fact that this restaurant was selected out of the hundreds of restaurants that my husband could have chose from our commute from West Lawn. I know, that part is not of your concern I too am very sorry that we all were disappointed with the experience as a whole while dining at Asparagus. We won’t patronize again to avoid the feeling for our sake.
S/N - The grilled cilantro lime tilapia is flavorless and wasn’t what I experienced based on the description. I never knew grilled prepared food to have a crispy crust. My daughters steak and potatoes was drowned in “gravy”. We were looking for the mashed potatoes when the server had to point out that they were under the steak which made the side a soup basically. Just wasn’t what we expected based on the descriptions. White sangria was...
Read moreWe've been coming here for several years and obviously love it. I haven't ordered a dish I didn't like, but I don't order the American style dishes. The curries are phenomenal, even the catfish curry- goodness, it's good; five spice duck is delish and even better the next day; Hubby's fave (and I love it) is the garlic peppery pork; the pork shank soup... Oh my goodness.
We always order the spicy lemongrass beef salad for an appetizer and always fight over who gets the one round of jalapeño on top (when will we finally learn and order an extra?!), the Vietnamese spring rolls are great, as are the other fried rolls. The lamb here is truly awesome, both main dish and appetizer. We skip things like onion rings, as you can get that anywhere, so I have no input there.
Literally, other than cashew chicken, I've had almost the entire menu, but most often, I will order some type of seafood- anything "luxurious" is our personal joke and totally delicious, it's all great (never had the whole red snapper) and I always have lunch of it the next day. Service is great 98% of the time, which is fine by my standards.
My fave drink is the Silver Love Martini - not too sweet, but wonderful and has these awesome (basil?) seeds floating on top... A truly unique drink.
For a rare treat, we'll splurge on dessert- hummingbird cake is wonderful (and this comes from a cake hater) and the chocolate egg rolls are ridiculously good.
Come here. Give it a shot. It's a nice place, that we go for date night, quite often. If you want cheap, go to panda express. This is much better than that. Also, check out their website - they often have live music or special occasion...
