Egyptian salon — Local services in Ross Township

I had an incredibly disappointing and painful experience at Egyptian Salon in Merrillville, IN. I came in on a Monday at 1:30 PM for a wash, deep condition, blowout, cut, and style, which I was told over the phone would be $110. I understand prices may vary and say “and up,” but there was absolutely no communication during my appointment about any added charges. I was shocked when the price jumped to $150 at checkout with no explanation. That should have been discussed during the service—not after. I should have been given the choice to continue or not.

I was also the only customer in the salon, so I expected a calm, focused experience. Instead, I felt rushed and disregarded.

The person who washed my hair was extremely rough, didn’t properly detangle it, and yanked through my strands, pulling out hair in front of me. It was painful, unprofessional, and careless. At one point, he even hit me in the eye with a comb and didn’t apologize. My scalp was sore for hours afterward, and I left in pain and frustration.

Mohamed, who styled my hair, was thankfully much more gentle and respectful. He is clearly very talented at straightening and styling, and I appreciated the way he handled that portion of the service. However, when it came time for the haircut, I was deeply disappointed.

I made it clear that I had bad split ends and wanted them gone. Mohamed showed me about 4 inches, which I agreed to—that section definitely needed to go. But in the end, he cut off nearly 10 inches, leaving me with a bob. I walked in with waist-length hair and left with a bob. I was devastated. It took me years to grow my hair to that length, and now I’m starting over.

What hurts the most is that most of my hair was actually healthy—only the 4 inches he showed needed to be trimmed. If my hair truly needed a 10-inch cut for health, I would’ve understood. But it didn’t. This felt unnecessary and careless.

While my hair turned out cute, the emotional and physical stress I went through was not worth it. If I ever return, I’ll come fully detangled and will never allow another haircut from them again.

Got my hair done today Horrible place to get your hair done ! The guy who wash your hair is very rough he will literally take your hair out right in front of you he comb hair like he combing a Barbie doll head !! The owner charged me $110 dollars for a blowout and my hair was lumpy he said I would have to pay and additional $25 just for him to fix it ! Because he don’t know if I sweat it out after only 10 mins Very rude and disrespectful he don’t care about the customer or your concerns when I told him I was unhappy with my hair because he bumped my ends like a old lady he told me that’s because my hair is short which it’s not it’s pass my shoulders and he cut it !! he said if he deal with everyone complaints then everybody would be expecting somthing free and nothing free in this world he even went on to refuse me service because I said I shouldnt have to pay $25 for you to flat iron the middle piece that’s lumpy when I only had my hair done for 10 mins ! I wouldn’t even let my dog get her hair done here ! The owner has a bad attitude and don’t like black people he only like they money ! Called about services before my visit conversation went well I then decided to walk in showed the guy a picture of a color I wanted in my head he then told me to pick the color I felt as a professional he should suggest based of picture what colors are needed to achieve the look.
