Katana Sushi & Hibachi — Restaurant in Roswell

I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. I was disappointed at this place because I expected so much more with all their billboards around East Cobb. I was looking for hibachi in a hurry and popped in with my daughter. The hostess outside was nice and lead us in but as soon as we sat our waiter was clearly working on his day off. He was not friendly, proactive or didn't bother asking if we needed refills or if the food was good. Which is wasn't... Nothing had a lot of flavor. I had Steak and Shrimp Hibachi with both soup and salad. Pretty standard hibachi order. My nine year old daughter got her own hibachi steak with white rice. Kids don't get any soup or salad with their order. I asked Sunshine for some kids chop sticks and he made a face like he had to wittle them in the back first. The miso soup was lacking any sense of dashi in the broth. It was bland and the tiny tofu was hard so it was probably old and watered down. The salad was tiny and had too much watery ginger dressing soaking it. The flavor of the dressing was good in spite of being a bad consistency. They gave me a ton of vegetables which I loved and it tasted fine. Kind of like grilling on a flat top in an airbnb when you are missing all your seasonings. Fried rice had crunchy vegetables and they didn't use any sesame oil or anything. I had to add soy sauce like I was getting takeout. The steak was underdone and tough at the same time. My daughter got medium vs my medium rare and she was complaining about all the chewing she had to do in order to swallow the steak. She's never complained about steak being tough anywhere, not even the one time I took her to Golden Corral. I would try it again during a busier time just to give them another shot but based on what I experienced, won't have...

It seems to be a pattern of fraud for this restaurant to advertise specials to induce people to patronize their business and then refuse to honor the advertised specials. They refused to honor their lunch special which was advertised on the sign in front their restaurant when I went there last week, and according to the review of Sandra O on Yelp, they refused to honor a drink special she tried to redeem. A restaurant with such fraudulent business practices will not last long in East Cobb. Their short-sightedness and lack of hospitality is mind boggling.

The response of the restaurant below is not true. I told the waitress that I knew exactly what I wanted to order, but she said that the restaurant stopped serving lunch at 2:45. When I told her that I would be going elsewhere for lunch, her response was a curt “Ok.” As I exited the building I once again saw the sign advertising the lunch specials from 11am to 3pm. I came back into the restaurant and told her that the sign should be changed to accurately reflect the availability of the special. Additionally, I called the restaurant 3 times over two days to attempt to speak to the owner about the incident. I left both my office number and my personal cell phone number, and I never received a call back. It seems that public reviews are the only thing that get their attention, and even then, they are incapable of apologizing and admitting that they were wrong or taking any corrective action. Sept 2024 Update below....

This place needs to be on a tour guide, It's incredible!! The service was great!! Came in for lunch with my wife and young daughter. We have eaten sushi at hundreds of places and several countries and Katana did not disappoint!. I believe Jimmy was our server, he was super cool and nice, was attentive. Our compliments to the sushi chefs as the rolls and individual sushi tasted fresh and delicious!! The edamame and soup were awesome. We'll definitely be going back. Thanks again!

...Update April 2024. Went back a few days ago with the family. It was missed! Again incredible service and absolutely Top Top food. Everything was incredible!! My son ordered Chicken nuggets and fries, who knew they had that!!, then my son was feeling like he wanted to try some of what we were having and he ordered a Shrimp Soba and he loved it!!!!!. So happy to have this place only minutes from us. Everyone there is incredible and always smiling and treated us like Royalty!

Update Sept 2024 Went back with the family. Ordered many of the same rolls we've always gotten and enjoyed. Right away, we noticed that the rolls were a miniature version of the rolls we've had every other time we've been there.

Then I ordered my usual 4 pieces of Unagi.... they arrived and were easily Half the size of the last time we were here. The desserts were loved by all but time to try...
