I came here for a late Valentine's dinner with my wife. We had heard some good things about NOCA and I can add to those praises now. The atmosphere is casual, but upscale and intimate at the same time. There seem to be at least 2 seating areas for really large groups. One has its own room that can be closed off if need be and the other is by the bar. There is a unique bar that seems to open up on one side to the outdoor seating area with a fire pit, which I loved, but it was raining, so we sat inside for our dinner. I'm looking forward to trying that another time though. We had heard the burgers were great and since we happened to be there on Monday night (aka $5 Burger Night) we both ordered burgers and some sides. My wife got the Frites with Truffle Oil and I got the Mac and Cheese. We also got an appetizer of Crab Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms which were crazy good. Everything was fantastic. Our burgers were cooked as ordered with additional fried onions on both which was great. I washed it all down with a delicious Left Hand Milk Stout which I was happily surprised to see on the menu. Afterwards, I barely had room but could not resist the White Chocolate Bread Pudding (I mean, who could right?). My instincts were correct and we ate what was quite possibly the best bread pudding ever. Do not pass this by if you are a fan of the bread pudding like me. The staff was courteous and prompt and the manager even made a quick and unobtrusive stop to check on how everything was. I think we are going to bring our "Dining Out Group" here to sample the rest of the menu which we saw a little of at other tables. I for one can't wait as it looked...
Read moreThis place is darling on the inside. I absolutely love the atmosphere, very upscale modern and it looked like it had a nice bar area. The reason this place gets 3 stars is because the food was very "eh". It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great and for the price of the dinner, I thought it was a little much for the quality of the food.
Our waiter was new so he messed up a few times and I'm fine with having new people wait on me, but our water glasses were empty almost the entire night. That's my biggest pet peeve, and especially to see my step dad not have a drink for almost the entire night really bothered me. I don't think their sections were set up very well because our waiter disappeared on the regular (the restaurant isn't very big) so the fact that I couldn't see him for 60% of the night meant that he was probably running around in another room tending to other people so he couldn't see that our water glasses were empty. It also took us almost 45 minutes to get our food from when we ordered it. Which was rather ridiculous.
I got the salmon Oscar, which was good, but kind of cold like it had sat on a heating window for too long. My fiance's Ribeye was pretty awful for a 30$ ribeye. I've honestly cooked better steaks at home than what was given to us. The appetizers were pretty good though, we got the Calamari and the Firecracker shrimp. Overall, I probably won't ever return unless someone else is footing the bill. Just with the service and the "eh" quality of food, it was much too expensive to really want...
Read moreWe have been to this restaurant twice since moving near Roswell. On both occasions my spouse had the lobster, and it was good. On both occasions I have not ordered the lobster, but have sent back 3 inedible dishes. I’m not one to send back food if it’s ‘ok’, but these 3 dishes (that had huge potential to be edible) rated below Red. Bruschetta - both the original and replacement inedible. Bread toasted to tree bark consistently, and vinaigrette dressing so thick it could have been an undiluted concentrate. We gave up that particular meal.
We went back on another occasion. First of all, the food took well over 45 minutes to arrive, it was unfortunately not worth the wait. My first dish - whoah - salt overload. Sent this back after 3 bites, and asked for something else - salt being the reason - and requested the ‘something else’ without salt.
Well After my spouse had finished their dish, and being extraordinarily hungry still, I received the ‘something else’ - yet again far too heavy on the salt (yes, they added it), and sauce way too salty. As someone who’s used to highly seasoned dishes, and knowing the number of good reviews of this restaurant, I can only put it down to incredibly bad luck for me (and spouse who wanted a pleasant evening) for choosing those nights - and that chef - for the servers who had to handle this, and the restaurant for losing our business. Shame. We dine out a LOT.
I’m giving 2 stars only for the servers and the fact that my spouse enjoyed...
