Had a small get together with some friends so decided to make it easy and order some take-out. I'll admit I wasn't expecting much as I picked this place for convenience as much as the food and reviews, but ended up pleasantly surprised.
I ordered everything online, which was a quick and easy process and picked a time for pick-up. Everything was on-time but not quite correct on the order. While I opened the main bag and checked the meats one of the sides (beans) was missed.
I picked the family feast with tri-tip, salmon, and pulled pork, and then did an add-on of sausage and some extra tri-tip as I felt it would be popular. Sides were roasted veggies, beans, and apple slaw - although as I type this out I realize the beans were missing. And the family feast comes with a salad of which I selected the ceaser version. They have 2 types of BBQ sauce which come pre-packaged in the little dipping containers, but I'd caution there isn't much sauce in each packet so get plenty. You also get a choice of bread and I opted for the combo of rolls and cornbread.
Tri-tip and salmon were both excellent, and the pulled pork was good. Apple slaw and roasted veggies were very good, but obviously can't speak to the beans. Salad looked decent but we didn't really end up touching it. Breads and both types of sauce were also good. Portions were generous and based on the quantity of the add-ons (1 pound each), I'd say you get 1 pound of each type of meat in the standard order too. That isn't really clear when ordering.
Throw in a Costco chicken and a shrimp appetizer and we fed 12 hungry, but not starving, people with some leftovers to spare. This location is in a small and somewhat popular shopping complex that can get crowded with narrow lanes for navigating the parking lot that only has a couple of exits. Not really well designed but usually not a lot of problems.
The staff was friendly and professional and overall I'd definitely...
Read moreDo you know when the first Buckhorn Grill was opened? It was opened 1999 in the city called Metreon, San Francisco, CA. Yay, it’s California based company.
First time, I tried Buckhorn was with my co-workers in mid-town. I don’t remember the exact year and date, but we don’t need go in much detail, right? I fell in love with their sandwiches. Who wouldn’t?
After pandemic, we had our first monthly team lunch and I’m glad it was buckhorn. It was my first time trying this Freeport location. They have plenty of parking, nice and clean restaurant including the bathroom, customer service was great and lots of indoor and outdoor seating. I wouldn’t seat outside in the 100 degrees weather; they have outdoor covered patio option available.
My eyes kept going to the bar area. They have big screen TV and fancy drinks kept popping up. I kept thinking, I need to come back and try out.
One of the servers were super sweet and helped us take our group picture. I forgot to ask for he’s name. He was sweet to retake pictures since some people were not looking straight and hidden. It’s hard taking group pictures. I’m glad he was understanding and off course, I’m picky too.
Let me say, this place is known for tri-tips. But I’m not a beef and pork eater so I opted for chicken sandwich. I ordered their Krispy chicken. It has bacon, avocado, lettuce and tomatoes. I requested bacon and tomatoes to be removed. I get hives from tomatoes and I don’t eat bacon. We were 17 people in the group and food was served efficiently. We were surprised they were fast. I would definitely recommend this place for large groups; you don’t have to calculate for each person (they can order individually at the counter) and they have nice and big glass windows for...
Read moreI'd give a "0" to Julia (the manager) if I could help another customer NOT suffer from the awful experience my grandaughter and I had while at this establishment.
I ordered the 2 meat platter ($27.00) that is way over priced for quality and quanity for 1 person and a child, and frenchfries. When I and asked to "upgrade" my salad and pay the $1.50 for the upgrade ...the cashier Blanca that rang us up...as table service was not available said "I couldn't pay more for a "better" salad". I asked to speak to her supervisor and met a Manager Julia. From the moment Julia made eye contact with me she was rude. We are in a day where COVID-19 has taken the opportunity of many who want to work and employed...rude, poorly trained, "entitled" employees as Juila (unfortunately they are the best an employer can get..and its SAD). She told me she'd "let me pay more this 1 time to upgrade my salad, but couldn't allow it if I ever came back again". I assured her I'd never be back again. There were 4 other customers in the restaurant while my grandaughter and I were there...it was just after 2 pm...(as my receipt shows). I had a front row seat as the another customer who sat at the bar 6 feet away was also rudely treated by Julia. He sat at the bar for a menu to "dine in" and was not acknowledged for 10 min, and subsequently walked out of the restaurant. Did I note Julia who was taking her break and was eating/sitting at the bar and only 3 feet away from this guy she ignored? The sign out front reads est in 1933...I can't imagine this is how they wanted/treated their guest for lunch/dinner in 1933+ years.
This picture sits on their bar...and here is my receipt.
COVID-19 IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO HIRE...
