When I found out that a 2nd "Philz Coffee" was going to open in the Sacramento area in May 2022, I was absolutely excited. And to find out that this new location was only 10 minutes from my office, this was all the more reason to be a regular here. Located directly on Freeport Blvd. in the South Land Park neighborhood of Sacramento and in a shopping center that includes a Raley's, Buckhorn Grill, Jamba, and Chase Bank, this was a very warm welcome to this part of town.
To those of you that are not familiar with Philz Coffee, they started out as a small business in San Francisco back in 1978 and has expanded to dozens of locations in the Bay Area before branching out to Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, Chicago, and Washington D.C. In addition to their drip coffee (which comes in light, medium, and dark options), they have a very unique assortment of their "featured creations". This includes their top seller, the "Iced Mint Mojito" as well as cold brews, cocoa, and hazelnut infused varieties.
As far as this location goes, parking is rather easy to find as there are lots of spaces that are in close proximity to the business. Once inside, the interior is bright, cheerful, and inviting while utilizing lots of indoor space. Seating is generous while lots of natural light flows directly inside. Since I placed my order through the Philz Coffee app, this sped up the entire process. During my first visit which was during the morning of Thursday 5/19/2022, I went with a large "Iced Mint Mojito". After ordering this at 7:28am, my drink was ready by 7:40am.
The service I experienced here was top notch as the overall experience was 100% efficient. Many people can be thrown off as far as where to order so I suggest everyone to download their app which makes it a lot easier. As far as my iced mint mojito drink, it was cool, refreshing, and that mint flavor really hit the spot for what was to be a very busy morning at my office. Props to the staff, service, and ambiance that I received here. Beautiful location and a 10/10 in my book. My rating, a...
Read moreI’m going to pre-phase this by saying I’m an Ex-Philz employee (not at this location):
This used to be my go-to place for Philz mainly for the size of location and because OTF is right across the lot. But daaang, the way they’ve been making their ice coffee is way off, I am unable to even drink it. It’s always watered down. Always, for the past 1-2 months. My ice is already melted when I they call my name especially when there’s a particular barista making it. It’s like they don’t use fresh ice, they use the ice that was used to cool the hot coffee. I’m not going to call them out, but every time I seem them, I leave. It’s that bad for me. I’ve tried to have them remake it- they add less cream or less sugar, but that’s not the issue. They may need to do see how their peeps are making their coffees because it’s inconsistent.
Although appearance is the least of importance, they look like a really sad watered down coffee. Like they don’t even try. Philz is known for their fluffy shaken heavy cream but I’ve been getting something way less than what they used to make.
I’ve been going to the other location at Ice Box and WOW you can tell the difference in their iced coffee. I drove directly there after I got a sad and watered down mint mojito at this location. Ice Box location made it to perfection and it had the traditional fluffy little cloud of heavy cream which is a cute touch. Don’t tell me it doesn’t make a difference...
Read moreSuch good coffee but I CAN NOT get past the inconsistency and this is a problem with all Philz coffee shops. Sometimes if it’s the right time or barista you get the best cup of coffee, sometimes it’s just meh and the coffee is not even hot and I fully regret getting one; sometimes it takes 5 minutes and sometimes it takes 25 minutes for them get to your drinks. Sometimes my drink is scolding hot and other times it’s lukewarm and I had to go home and microwave it like today. It’s probably a little better than the midtown one but it’s a deep frustrating experience for customers, unable to expect inconsistency even for their better performing stores, Philz really...
